Vakeaton Quamar "Von" Wafer (born July 21, 1985 in Homer , Louisiana ) is a retired American basketball player .

career

High school and college

After completing high school in Lisbon, Louisiana , Wafer went to Florida State University in 2003 , where he worked for the Florida State Seminoles. In his second and last year there, he was able to achieve an average of 12.5 points per game and hit 65 three-point throws, which meant the best value of his team.

Professional career

Wafer then signed up for the 2005 NBA draft , although some NBA experts predicted that he would not be drafted. He was also not invited to the annual pre-draft camp in Chicago , which gives players the opportunity to show their skills in front of NBA officials and thus draw attention to themselves. Irving Thomas, who scout the Los Angeles Lakers , who was active earlier even at Florida State University, watched wafer during his senior season 2004/05 and allowed him a trial with the Lakers. There he was able to convince those responsible with his achievements and was then drafted in 39th place by the Lakers.

Due to an injury, he did not play more than a preparation game and therefore switched to the Colorado 14ers in the NBA D-League for the 2006/07 season , where he was even named Player of the Month in January 2007. A month later, he signed a ten-day contract with the Los Angeles Clippers , for which he was only used for a minute and could not score a point. In April 2007, the Denver Nuggets signed him for the remainder of the 2006/07 NBA season .

A few months later he was transferred to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Taurean Green . Previously, he had averaged 10.9 points in eight games for the Nuggets. After he was hardly used with the Blazers, the Houston Rockets took him under contract. There he was able to play his way to the fore with good performances and even replace the injured Tracy McGrady . In a game against the LA Lakers on January 13, 2009, he achieved his career best of 23 points in 39 minutes of play.

After 63 games in the 2008/09 season for the Rockets, Wafer moved to Europe in August 2009 to the Greek top club and Euroleague participant Olympiacos , where he signed a 2-year contract with a base salary of 10 million US dollars. After poor performance, the contract was terminated after three months in December 2009.

After a contract for 10 days with the Dallas Mavericks , for which he was not used, Wafer moved to the Boston Celtics for the 2010/11 season . There he reached the semi-final series of the Eastern Conference . In 2011, in the wake of the NBA lockout, he moved to Italy to join Vanoli Cremona . After its end, but before the start of the following NBA season , the Celtics gave wafers together with Glen Davis to the Orlando Magic .

Wafer then played in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), before returning to his home country at the end of 2013 and again in the D-League in January 2014, this time for the Bakersfield Jam. In February 2014 Wafer moved to Russia, where he played for Krasny Oktjabr from Volgograd in the VTB United League .

From 2014 to 2018 Wafer played with several teams in Puerto Rico and China , as well as in the NBA D League.
