W. Günther Rohr , b. as Walter Günther Ganser (born October 17, 1956 in Bernkastel-Kues ; † August 5, 2015 in Cairo ), was a German medievalist with a focus on literary studies . His main research interests were historical cultural studies , editions and edition philology , codicology and palaeography , lexicology and lexicography , history of German studies and cultural studies / 'German Studies'. He also taught modern German literature and German as a foreign language (DaF).

Life

W. Günther Rohr passed his Abitur in 1975 at the St. Johann Abbey School in Amöneburg . He then mainly studied German (with a focus on medieval studies) at the universities in Marburg , Hamburg and at King's College London . In 1985 he received his doctorate (still under the surname Ganser) at the University of Marburg by Helmut Lomnitzer with a thesis on the Dutch version of the travelogue by Jean de Mandeville (Johann von Mandeville). The habilitation took place in 1997 with Walter Röll at the University of Trier with a thesis on the borrowing and the early development of the adjective 'klâr'. Between 1997 and 2015 W. Günther Rohr worked, in the last decade of his life, especially for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), as a guest lecturer, lecturer and (substitute) professor at numerous universities in Germany and abroad, including at the University of Duisburg-Essen , in Kabul , Cairo , Kassel , Kiel , Leipzig , Osnabrück , Plovdiv and Seoul . He was an adjunct professor at the University of Koblenz-Landau . In 2017 the anthology "War - Religion - Psyche. University Didactic Challenges of DAAD Lectoral Work in the MENA Region. Documentation of Applications and Contributions", edited by Michael Fisch and Julia Wolbergs , was published as volume 4 in the book series "Contributions to transcultural science "Dedicated to W. Günther Rohr by Weidler Buchverlag in Berlin.
