Wahlshausen is a district in the municipality of Oberaula in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse .

geography

Geographical location

Wahlshausen is on the edge of the southern Knüllgebirge and is a few kilometers from the highest point of the Knüll - the Eisenberg - which is 636 meters above sea level. NN can be seen from almost everywhere in the village.

The Aula, a stream that rises in the neighboring town of Oberaula and flows into the Fulda in Niederaula, flows through Wahlshausen - the region owes the name “Aulatal” to this.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring communities are the communities Kirchheim , Ottrau , Neukirchen and Schwarzenborn .

history

Wahlshausen was first mentioned in 1100 as an electoral city of various spheres of power. In the 13th century the place was called Wayleshusen and had market rights. In the middle of the 15th century there were records of 15 houses. The first school house was built in the middle of the 18th century.

On 1 January 1974 in the wake of Wahlhausen was municipal reform in Hesse powerful state law with the previously independent municipalities Oberaula, Friedigerode, Olberode and Ibra to new large municipality Oberaula together . Local districts were formed for all formerly independent communities .

The year 2008 was the beginning of the village renewal project with 5,000 hours of personal work. Among other things, the Panoramaweg was expanded, a meadow orchard laid out along the Panoramaweg, the "House of Generations" was completely renovated, the equipment in the children's playground was renewed and the "Platz an der Aula" and the church square were redesigned.

In 2009 Wahlshausen was a finalist in the competition for the “ Dollste Village of Hesse ” by the Hessian Broadcasting Corporation (HR). In 2014 Wahlshausen took 1st place in group A of the 35th Hessian competition "Our village has a future" at regional level. In 2015 Wahlshausen took 3rd place in the state decision “Our village has a future”. This placement was celebrated for the first time with a white board.

In 2014 the old village community center was demolished and a new building started in spring 2015.

On August 18, 2018, the new village community center was officially inaugurated with a public celebration after a five-year construction period. Thus it was completed two years later than planned and handed over to the sponsoring association. The total costs amounted to 473,000 euros and were collected from EU funding, a foundation and the contribution made by the municipality of Oberaula. The deviation was 24,000 euros more than originally planned. This does not include the 2,400 hours of voluntary, unpaid work.

Attractions

  • The space at the auditorium was created in 2009 and has been the meeting place for the villagers ever since. Many events of the local associations take place here.
  • House of Generations , the building from the 19th century, in constructive framework, is a listed building. It was used as a school building until 1960, then as an apartment. From 2010 to 2012 it was completely renovated. Since October 2012, the building has been available to the villagers as a “house of generations”.
