The paddle steamer Waldschlösschen was built in 1863 in the Blasewitz shipyard from delivered parts. The manufacturer of the ship parts was the Swiss engineering company Escher Wyss & Co. in Zurich .
The time until 1867
The ship was built as a screw steamer. It was named after the Dresden Waldschlösschen . After its commissioning in 1864, the smooth-deck steamer drove on the Elbe for the “United Saxon-Bohemian Steamship”, which was converted into the “Saxon-Bohemian Steamship Company” (SBDG) in March 1867. In 1864/65 it was converted into a side wheel steamer.
In order to avoid the access of the Kingdom of Prussia , the ship was relocated to Theresienstadt in May 1866 in the run-up to the Austro-Prussian War and only relocated to Dresden after the end of the war in August 1866.
In 1867 it was sold to the Magdeburg “Lust Steamship Company”.
The time after the sale
In Magdeburg the ship was used under the name of Fürst Bismarck . In 1882 the "Chain, German Elbe Shipping Company" bought the ship. It was used under the name Herrenkrug on the Buckau - Altstadt (Magdeburg) - Herrenkrug route . In 1887 the ship was decommissioned and scrapped.
The steam engine
The steam engine , as well as the single-flame tube suitcase boiler, was built by the Swiss engineering company Escher Wyss & Co. in Zurich. It was a standing high-pressure two-cylinder twin steam engine with an output of 55 hp . A screw served as the drive in the first year.
