The Bodenbach paddle steamer was built in the Blasewitz shipyard in 1896 . The ship was laid with the hull number 39 on the keel . It was renamed several times: in 1946 in Podmokly , in 1952 in Dr. Miroslav Tyrš , 1960 in Družba and 1961 in MŠMT 2 . It was the company's first upper deck steamer.

The time after commissioning until 1945

After being commissioned as an upper deck steamer , the ship ran for the Saxon-Bohemian Steamship Company (SBDG) until 1923 . After the cessation of business operations in 1923, it operated for the Saxon-Bohemian Steamship Company (SBDA), newly founded in 1923 . The white painting of the ships, which was customary from 1926, earned it the name White Fleet . It already had a steam steering winch and a wheelhouse. It was built by the Übigau shipyard of the chain, Deutsche Elbschiffahrts-Gesellschaft with factory no. 124. In size, the ship is comparable to the nativity set built in 1892 . According to today's standards, the number of passengers should be around 250 seats. Like the Rhine steamers, the ship had platforms in front of and behind the wheel arches. However, these did not prove themselves and were dismantled. From then on, the ship docked with a bow or stern, as is customary in Dresden. In 1900/01 a new steam rudder machine from the chain, Deutsche Elbschiffahrts-Gesellschaft, Uebigau shipyard, with the factory no. 306 installed. In 1903 the ship was painted white and sand-colored, which is typical for double-deck ships. In 1911/12 the electrical system was renewed. In the winter of 1927/28 the ship was painted white. In the winter of 1928/29, steam heating was installed and the wheel arches removed to make space for toilets. A small forward deck saloon was installed between the wheel arches.

On June 28, 1931 there was a collision with the Pillnitz . The Pillnitz then had to be taken out of service.

In the summer of 1943, the Bodenbach, like all steamers, was camouflaged. At the end of the Second World War , the ship was in the port of Prossen .

The time after 1945

On August 26, 1945 the Bodenbach was confiscated by the Czechoslovak Republic and towed to Děčín . Here it was incorporated into the holdings of Československou plavební akciovou společností labskou (ČPSL) (Czechoslovak Elbe Shipping Corporation). The seizure of the ship must be seen in connection with the participation of the Bohemian Georgschicht AG as one of the main shareholders in the SBDA. The ship was renamed Podmokly in 1946 and thus received the Czech name of the Děčín district of Bodenbach (Podmokly). On January 1, 1949, the ČPSL was renamed Československá plavba Labská (ČSPL) and on July 1, 1952 in Československá plavba labsko-oderská (ČSPLO). Until the cessation of operations in 1955, the ship was used on the route from Herrnskretschen to Decin. The traffic in the deserted border area was no longer worthwhile.

On September 1, 1949, as part of an Elbe peace meeting in Herrnskretschen , delegations of young people from the Czechoslovak Republic met on the Podmokly and the GDR on the Rathen health resort . On October 1st, this meeting was repeated with trade unionists from the Czechoslovak Republic. In addition, the health resort Rathen was renamed Friendship - Přátelství . In the winter of 1949/50 the ship underwent an overhaul and received the short chimney typical of Czech ships.

On the occasion of his 120th birthday, the ship was in 1952 in Dr. Renamed Miroslav Tyrš . In 1960 the ship was renamed Družba (Russian for friendship ). In 1961, passenger shipping in Czechoslovakia was restructured. The Družba was taken out of service and parked in the port of Prague - Smíchov , the engine and steam boiler were removed and the ship was used as a warehouse. Some time later the ship was moored on the Prague Rifle Island (Střelecký ostrov) and served here as a floating shop for the Prague trade and as a boat rental. In 1964 the ship was taken over by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (Ministerstvo školství, mládeže a tělovýchovy / MŠMT) under the name MŠMT 2 . It was brought to the port of Libeň . Here it was used as a youth hostel and clubhouse. In 1969 it sank. In 1979 it was lifted again, but not used again and in 1980 it was blown up as part of an exercise.

The steam engine

The steam engine was an oscillating, high-pressure, two-cylinder composite steam engine with injection condensation. Like the two-flame tube cylinder boiler, it was built by the Übigau shipyard of the Deutsche Elbschiffahrts-Gesellschaft, Ketten, with the factory no. 114. The power was 145 PSi. The steam boiler had a steam pressure of 10 bar . The steam engine worked on two side paddle wheels.
