Valeriy Borchin ( Russian Валерий Викторович Борчин ., English transcription Valeriy Borchin * 11. September 1986 in Powodimowo, rayon Dubinki, Mordovian ASSR , USSR ) is a Russian walkers and Olympic champion from the nationality of the Erzya-Mordvin .

Career

At the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2006 , he won silver in the 20 km walk . In 2008 he increased his best time over 20 km to 1:17:55 h and won the Olympic Games in Beijing over this distance. The victory was overshadowed by doping rumors as three Russian walkers had been banned for doping shortly before the games and Bortschin himself was banned for one year in 2005 for ephedrine abuse.

At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin , he won his next international title. In a time of 1:18:41 h he relegated the Chinese Wang Hao and the Mexican Eder Sánchez to the places over 20 km . He was not nominated for the home world championships in Moscow in 2013.

In January 2015 he was charged with irregularities in his biological passport locked retroactively to 15 October 2012 for eight years and all results from July 14, 2009 and September 15th 2009, between 16 June 2011 and 27 September 2011 and deleted between April 11, 2012 and September 3, 2012, including the 2009 and 2011 world championship titles.

Valery Borchin is 1.78 m tall and weighs 63 kg. He lives in Mordovia and is a member of the Russian army .
