Walter von Brüning

Walter von Brüning (born August 13, 1869 in Höchst am Main , † June 16, 1947 in Garz / Rügen ) was a German administrative officer, manor owner, parliamentarian and bibliophile .

Life

Walter von Brüning studied law and political science at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin . In 1888 he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg . After completing his studies and doctorate as Dr. jur. he entered the Prussian civil service. He completed his government traineeship with the government in Wiesbaden . In 1897 he passed the government assessor exam. As Wiesbaden Regierungsassessor 1907 he became district administrator of the district Stolp . From spring 1918 until the end of the monarchy he was police chief of Kiel . From January 5, 1911 to May 28, 1918 he sat for the constituency of Köslin 1 (Lauenburg, Bütow, city and district of Stolp) in the Prussian House of Representatives . He belonged to the faction of the Conservative Party . Because of his promotion to the police chief of Kiel, he left the parliament.

He then lived on his manor in Semper on Rügen until his expropriation in 1945 . There he owned an extensive library. After the death of Eduard Grisebach , he acquired his book collection, among other things. From 1911 to 1915 he was chairman of the Maximilian Society . He had his library auctioned off with two printed catalogs in 1930/1931. His neo-baroque manor complex, built by the Berlin architect Georg Steinmetz , is now used by the police recreation facility.
