The Waldhufendorf Weißensand was first mentioned in a document in 1271. The hill fort "Heidenschanze", located east of today's village on a spur, was built before the 12th century. The German forest hoof village Weißensand was built on the Göltzschfurt to the west of the old Treuen - Schneidbach - Reichenbach traffic route . The extensive block corridor of what would later become the Weissensand manor stretched east of the path . The Kleinweißensand district, which today belongs to Weißensand, is located on the right side of the Göltzsch at the former ford and was only united with Weißensand in the 18th century. While Kleinweißensand was part of the church of Reichenbach, Weißensand was parish after Treuen.

The Vorwerk , mentioned in the 16th century, was named as a manor in 1791. However, its origin dates back to the 11th century. At that time, the lords of Myla were lords of white sand. In the 13th century the Vogt Heinrich von Gera and in the middle of the 14th century the Vögte von Plauen were named as the owner. After Ernst von Metzsch came into possession of Weißensand in 1517, the estate was transferred to the Lords of Schönberg sixty years later . In 1636 the Vorwerk came to the noble Bose family . They were followed in 1713 by Christian Ludwig Edler von der Planitz , and later by the von Mangoldt family and the Schilbach family.

Weißensand and the Kleinweißensand, which was attached to it in the 18th century, came to the Electoral Saxon and later royal Saxon office of Plauen in the 16th century with the rule of Mylau, to which the towns were subject until 1856. In 1856 Weißensand was affiliated to the Treuen court office and in 1875 to the Auerbach administration .

In October 1937, the first work on the construction of the large motorway bridge north of Weißensand took place . The 425 meter long and 35 meter high bridge with its 50.5 meter wide arches was completed a year later. On April 16, 1945, d. H. one day before the American troops reached the cities of Reichenbach and Lengenfeld, German soldiers blew a large hole in each lane. As a result, the bridge became impassable only 6 years after its completion. The reconstruction of the bridge dragged on until October 1948. The autobahn bridge at Weißensand was used by the author Auguste Lazar (1887–1970) as the book title for a largely factual story ("Die Brücke von Weißensand", children's book publisher Berlin, 1965). In this book a memorial is made to the selfless actions of the people of Weißensand. They rescued two women from a prisoner train that was temporarily housed in 1945 while marching through to another concentration camp in Weißensand.

The owners of the manor were expropriated as part of the land reform in 1945 and the associated lands were divided into eight new farmer positions. In 1948/1949 the manor house was partially demolished, the remainder was converted into a stable building. This part was refurbished at a later date and turned into a residential building.

From 1952, Weißensand belonged to the Reichenbach district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was renamed the Reichenbach district in 1994 and was added to the Vogtland district in 1996 . On January 1, 1994, the place was incorporated into Lengenfeld.
