Location of Luckenau in Zeitz
|
Luckenau is a district of the city of Zeitz in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).
Until it was incorporated into Zeitz on January 1, 2010, Luckenau was an independent municipality with the associated districts Streckau and Weidau in the Zeitzer Land administrative community . The last mayor of Luckenau was Margit Stirbo.
Since Luckenau did not have a common border with Zeitz, the change of area was only possible because the municipality of Theißen decided to incorporate it into Zeitz.
geography
Luckenau is located about six kilometers northwest of downtown Zeitz am Maibach, which flows through the village and flows into the White Elster a few kilometers further east . Lignite mining has shaped the landscape and the remaining open-cast mining holes are now small lakes. Major cities in the area are Gera , Leipzig and Halle .
history
In the valley through which the Maibach flows, the small villages Luckenau, Weidau and Streckau were created. The place was first mentioned in 976 as Villa Luongonosi , which was donated to the Zeitz diocese by Emperor Otto II .
A community was founded in 1930 from the villages of Luckenau, Streckau, Weidau and Gaumnitz. It was initially under the Weißenfels district administration, later the community belonged to the Zeitz district and today to the Burgenland district.
In 1932, Gaumnitz had to give way to open-cast lignite mining.
