Location of Kayna in Zeitz

Kayna is a district of the city of Zeitz in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt . The Kayna, Lindenberg, Mahlen, Roda and Zettweil districts belong to the village of the same name .

geography

Market with the milk bank

The place is about nine kilometers southeast of the Zeitz core city and is crossed by the Schnauder , which gave the Schnaudertal its name. It rises in two source streams, the Lindenberger and the more water-bearing Kaynaer Schnauder . Their confluence is in the Spora - Loitsch area.

The districts of Lindenberg, Mahlen, Roda and Zettweil belonged to the former municipality of Kayna .

All four former districts are strongly rural. Lindenberg is the smallest of the villages (approx. 35 inhabitants / 2007). There are some old buildings and farms here, some of which are listed.

history

Kayna was first mentioned in a document in 964. The place goes back to a Slavic settlement. It was not until 1969, however, that the 900th anniversary was celebrated, so the founding date was dated to 1069 and thus significantly later than the first records of this place. According to the Pegau Annals, on the court day of Friedrich Barbarossa zu Kayna in August 1179, the decision was made to campaign against the Duke of Saxony and Bavaria, Heinrich the Lion, from the House of Welfs, who ignored all charges before the Emperor.

Kayna, Lindenberg, Mahlen, Roda and Zettweil were in the Zeitz office until 1815 , which as part of the Naumburg-Zeitz Monastery had been under Electoral Saxon sovereignty since 1561 and belonged to the secondary school- principality of Saxony-Zeitz between 1656/57 and 1718 . To the manor of the manor Kayna belonged u. a. Zettweil and part of Bröckau , as well as at times the Kaynaic villages , which belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office Borna as an exclave between the Zeitz monastery area (later the Saxon office Zeitz) and the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg ( Altenburg district office ) . As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the five places Kayna, Lindenberg, Mahlen, Roda and Zettweil with the Zeitz office came to Prussia in 1815. They were in 1816 the county Zeitz in the administrative district of Merseburg of the Province of Saxony allocated.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities Lindenberg, Roda and Zettweil were incorporated into the community of Kayna. Mahlen had already been incorporated into Roda beforehand. During the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Kayna was assigned to the Zeitz district in the Halle district in 1952 , which has been continued as the Zeitz district in the state of Saxony-Anhalt since 1990 and has been part of the Burgenland district since 1994.

Together with Döbris , Geußnitz , Nonnewitz and Würchwitz , Kayna was incorporated into the city of Zeitz on July 1, 2009. The last mayor of the municipality of Kayna was Margarete Späte (CDU). Since then, Kayna has been the southernmost town in Zeitz with five districts.
