Wellness cycle route

The wellness cycle route was a long-distance cycle path of around 500 kilometers between the end of the 1990s and 2011 . It led through the five large spas and nine state-approved air and Kneipp health resorts in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The wellness cycle route began in Minden and led along the Weser to Bad Oeynhausen and Vlotho . Here the route left the Weser and ran south-west towards Bad Salzuflen , then headed east to reach Lemgo . It then went across the Lipperland: to Detmold , Horn-Bad Meinberg and Schieder-Schwalenberg . Via Steinheim, Nieheim and Marienmünster you reached Höxter and thus after about 140 kilometers back to the Weser. After Höxter-Godelheim, the Weser and the Weserradweg were left again, and it went west to Brakel and Bad Driburg .

In a southerly direction it went now via Lichtenau, Wewelsburg to Bad Wünnenberg and Büren . Via Borchen we now headed north towards Paderborn . From Paderborn, the cycle path now headed west to Gütersloh . Here you passed Delbrück and Rheda-Wiedenbrück and at times followed the course of the Ems . We continued in a northerly direction to Harsewinkel with the abbey church in the Marienfeld district , to Halle and to the metropolis of Bielefeld .

From Bielefeld the route continued northwards to Spenge and Bünde in the direction of Hücker Moor . If you looked further north, you could already see the Wiehen Mountains on the horizon . It had to be crossed at Rödinghausen . The exertion of the ascent was rewarded with a nice descent to Preußisch Oldendorf . From now on only to the east. Via Lübbecke and the Großes Torfmoor nature reserve , cycling along the Mittelland Canal , you reached Minden, the starting point of the wellness cycle route.

It was possible to divide the circuit into smaller laps using cross connections. The first cross connection existed between Bad Salzuflen and Bielefeld . Another possibility for this was shortly after Neuenheerse. Here you could also reach Paderborn via Altenbeken and Bad Lippspringe .
