World cup
A World Cup is a worldwide, annual sporting event series.
Numerous other sporting and non-sporting events with a different format use this designation (see World Cup ).
World Cup events are organized by the respective umbrella organization for the sport. A World Cup consists of several competitions that are usually held at different locations over a season. The athletes receive points based on their placements in the World Cups. The overall World Cup winner is the participant who scores the most points in the course of the season.
In many sports such series of competitions are held as world championships, for example in motor sports, e.g. B. in Formula 1 , or in triathlon . The walking world cup , orienteering world cup and the athletics world cup are not classic world cups .
