Wesley Cook Bentley (born September 4, 1978 in Jonesboro , Arkansas ) is an American actor .

Life

The second youngest son of Cherie and David Bentley grew up in Mountain Home , Arkansas . While in high school at Sylvan Hills High School , he co-captained the soccer team, played in the theater troupe, and played the trombone in the school band. He made his first acting steps on the cabaret in Little Rock , before moving to the renowned Juliard Drama School in New York at the request of his mother . There he only studied for five months and in the meantime earned his living as a waiter in a restaurant on Long Island . The director Simon Aeby discovered him by chance for his first feature film, the psychological thriller Three Below Zero .

After his film debut with a smaller role in the Toni Morrison film adaptation of Menschenkind , he fell in with a wide audience in Sam Mendes ' American Beauty in 1999 because of his multifaceted role as a supposed model student who also deals drugs and pays homage to his voyeuristic tendencies with video recordings of neighbors on. For this role he received - in addition to various nominations - a Chicago Film Critics Association Award , the NBR Award , the Online Film Critics Society Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award .

Another highlight of his career was the role of the young British officer Jack Durrance, where he a conformist war hero during the Mahdi - Uprising in 1885, in Shekhar Kapur's The Four Feathers . Played In The Empire and the Glory he was seen in another historical role - as a young, determined railroad engineer during the gold rush in California in 1849. With the portrayal of the demon Blackheart in the film Ghost Rider , he embodied a villain for the first time. From 2001 to 2009 he was married to Jennifer Quanz. In 2010 he married Jacqui Swedberg, with whom he has a son (* 2010) and a daughter (* 2014).
