Viktor Arsenjewitsch Kapitonov
Viktor Arsenjewitsch Kapitonow ( Russian Виктор Арсеньевич Капитонов ; born October 25, 1933 in Kalinin , † March 1, 2005 in Moscow ) was a Soviet cyclist . During his active time he was a member of the CSKA Moscow club and an officer by profession.
Life
Viktor Kapitonov took part in the Olympic Games twice: in 1956 in Melbourne he finished 33rd in the street race; 1960 reached Viktor Kapitonow the Olympic victory in the road race and bronze in the team time trial . He took part in the International Peace Tour seven times . When he first started in 1957, he won three stages and was third overall in the race. In 1958 he became the best climber (as in the previous year) and won three stages. In 1961 he finished second. At the UCI Road World Championships in 1963 , he finished third in the team time trial with the team of the USSR. In the individual race of the world championship, 11th place in 1962 was his best result. Twice - in 1958 and 1959 - he was also Soviet road racing champion. For a while he ran speed skating as a parallel sport alongside cycling and started there in the highest performance class of the USSR .
Professional
After his sporting career, Kapitonov was the coach of the Soviet national cycling team. One of his protégés was Sergei Sukhorutschenkow , who became Olympic champion in road racing 20 years after him .
