Wilamowice (formerly also Wilemowice , Wielamowice, German Wilamowitz or Wilamow ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the municipality of Skoczów in the Powiat Cieszyński of the Silesian Voivodeship , Poland .

Wilamowice is located in the Silesian Foothills ( Pogórze Śląskie ), on the Górka Wilamowicka hill (388 m high) about 20 km west of Bielsko-Biała and 55 km south of Katowice in the powiat (district) Cieszyn.

The village has an area of ​​278 hectares .

Neighboring towns are the city of Skoczów in the east, Międzyświeć in the south, Iskrzyczyn in the west, and Simoradz in the north.

history

The village is located in the Olsa region (also Teschner Schlesien , Polish Śląsk Cieszyński ).

The place was first mentioned in 1331 as Willamowitz . The name is patronymically derived from the first name Wilam (<German Willam < Willahalm ) with the typical patronymic word ending - (ow) ice.

Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Teschen , which existed from 1290 during the period of Polish particularism . Since 1327 consisted suzerainty of the Kingdom of Bohemia and since 1526 it belonged to the Habsburg monarchy .

After the abolition of patrimonial , it formed a community in Austrian Silesia , Bielitz district and the judicial district of Skotschau from 1850 . In the years 1880–1910 the population decreased from 189 in 1880 to 178 in 1910, there were predominantly Polish speakers (between 90.9% and 99%), in 1910 also 15 (8.4%) German speakers and in 1890 also 7 (3.7%) Czech-speaking. In 1910 74% were Protestant, 25.8% Roman Catholic, there were 2 Jews.

In 1920, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the end of the Polish-Czechoslovak border war , Wilamowice became part of Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1975 to 1998 Wilamowice was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
