Wilhelm Korff (born November 29, 1926 in Hilden ; † August 4, 2019 in Munich , buried in Hilden) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian and social ethicist .

Life

Wilhelm Korff studied philosophy and theology at the University of Bonn from 1946 to 1950 . After ordination in 1952, he worked as a pastor in Essen , Neuss , Sürth , Düsseldorf and Bonn for 21 years , first as a chaplain and later as a student pastor . In 1965 he became Theological Catholic with a thesis on "honor, prestige conscience" at the Faculty of the University of Bonn to Dr. theol. PhD. In 1973 his basic work on social and ethics became “Norm and Morality. Investigations on the Logic of Normative Reason ”accepted as a habilitation thesis by the same faculty.

From 1973 to 1979 he was professor for theological ethics with special emphasis on social sciences at the University of Tübingen . From 1979 he was professor for Christian social ethics at the University of Munich . In 1993 he retired .

From 1991 to 1996 he was a member of the Advisory Council for Environmental Issues at the Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. From 1993 to 1999 he was head of the scientific editorial team set up by the Görres Society to develop a bioethics dictionary and a manual on business ethics in Munich. He was also co-editor of the 3rd edition of the Lexikons für Theologie und Kirche (1993 to 2001). For 2012, Wilhelm Korff was awarded the Görres Society's Ring of Honor . He was a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts .
