Wilhelm du Plessis

Friedrich Wilhelm Louis du Plessis (born March 27, 1820 in Mittenwalde , † September 2, 1886 in Erfurt ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Wilhelm was a son of the Prussian captain of the gendarmerie Louis du Plessis (1783-1842) and his wife Wilhelmine, née Graeff (1791-1859).

Military career

After visiting the Cadet Houses in Potsdam and Berlin , Plessis was transferred to the 37th Infantry Regiment (5th Reserve Regiment) of the Prussian Army on August 5, 1837 as a Second Lieutenant . From mid-April to early October 1840, he was assigned to the Infantry Training Battalion in Berlin. Plessis became adjutant of 2nd Battalion on April 1, 1843 and attended the General War School from October 15, 1845 to March 21, 1848 . At the end of March 1850 he was promoted to prime lieutenant and from February 1851 to August 1852 commanded as adjutant of the Landwehr regiment. Then Plessis was appointed regimental adjutant in his main regiment and in this capacity was promoted to captain on December 7, 1854. After a renewed command - this time as a company commander - with the Landwehr Regiment, he was appointed company commander on March 16, 1858 . On July 1, 1860, he was transferred to the newly formed 3rd Posensche Infantry Regiment No. 58 . Plessis advanced to major in mid-December 1863 and on April 9, 1866 was commander of the fusilier battalion that he waged in the war against Austria at Nachod , Skalitz and Schweinschädel . For his work, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords, after the peace treaty .

After the war, Plessis was transferred to the newly established Infantry Regiment No. 81 on October 30, 1866 . On November 12, 1866, he became the commander of the regiment's fusilier battalion. On December 31, 1866, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel with patent on October 30, 1866. On July 16, 1870 he was transferred as commander to the Brandenburg Fusilier Regiment No. 35 and after mobilization on the occasion of the war against France on July 26, 1870 , he led his regiment to Colonel Plessis at Vionville , Gravelotte , in front of Metz , in Orléans and Le Mans . Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, he and his association remained with the occupation army in France until the end of July 1873 after the end of the war. Under awarding of the character as a major general Plessis was on September 15, 1874 Board for disposition made. He died on September 2, 1886 in Erfurt.

Plessis married Franziska von Loesen (1822–1897), a daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Karl Heinrich Wilhelm von Loesen (1785–1846) in Nordhausen on April 21, 1849. The couple had several children:
