August Wilhelm Theodor von Bötticher (born October 5, 1845 in Nordhausen , † September 8, 1927 at Rheinburg Castle in Ehrenbreitstein ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

He was the son of Nordhausen merchant Wilhelm Karl Bötticher (1816-1884) and his second wife Caroline Bötticher (1823-1889). His father belonged to the old noble family Boetticher , who had not held the title for several generations. His younger brother was the Prussian Lieutenant General Traugott von Bötticher (1851–1931).

Military career

On March 5, 1865, at the age of 19, Bötticher joined the 2nd Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 28 of the Prussian Army . There he was appointed Portepeefähnrich on October 11, 1864 and promoted to Second Lieutenant a year later . He took part in the war against France in 1870/71 and received the Iron Cross 2nd class. After the peace treaty he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on December 14, 1871 and to captain on November 25, 1879 .

On January 4, 1881, Bötticher retired from the army and was employed as a captain and company commander in the sea ​​battalion . On November 27, 1882, he was recognized as a Prussian nobility through the herald's office rescript for the ennoblement of the family in 1563 , which facilitated a further career as a staff officer for him. In 1884 he changed to the 4th Company of the Sea Battalion as chief. On May 16, 1885, Bötticher retired from the Imperial Navy , rejoined the Prussian Army and was employed in the 2nd Posenen Infantry Regiment No. 19 .

It was not until 1892 that he was promoted to major and initially appointed commander of the 2nd Battalion in Infantry Regiment No. 143 in Strasbourg , only to return to Kiel a year later, on May 25, 1893, as commander of the 2nd Maritime Battalion. On May 20, 1896, he resigned from the Navy and joined the Army. At the same time he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on this date as a regular staff officer in the infantry regiment "Herzog von Holstein" (Holsteinisches) No. 85 .

From July 20, 1898 to July 21, 1900 he commanded the 1st Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 75 in Bremen . With the approval of his resignation request , Bötticher was then put up for disposition with the statutory pension and the right to wear the regimental uniform.

Even before his promotion, he had bought the Klausenberg plant in Ehrenbreitstein near Koblenz in 1898 and had it converted into today's Rheinburg in the following years, including the old fortifications. In 1906 he also acquired the neighboring Cluj-Napoca and had it converted into a villa and enlarged with numerous additions by 1919.

Wilhelm von Bötticher was married to Emilie Charlotte Johanna Fellinger (* 1855) since May 20, 1875 and had three children with her: Carl Friedrich Wilhelm (1880-1914), who served as first lieutenant on December 8, 1914 with the SMS Scharnhorst went down in the sea ​​battle at the Falkland Islands ; Friedrich Traugott Peter Justus (* 1885) and Emilie Elisabeth Helene (* 1886).
