Wilhelm von Willich

Friedrich Wilhelm Julius von Willich (* 21st September 1797 in Praga , † 3. March 1875 in Anklam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Wilhelm was a son of the Prussian Colonel Ernst Heinrich von Willich (1753-1826) and his wife Josephine Marianna, born von Wuthenau (1764-1821). His father was last in the 1st Silesian Hussar Regiment and was then postmaster in Paderborn .

Military career

Willich received his school education at home and on February 1, 1807 he became a junker in the "von Usedom" hussar regiment of the Prussian army . His association was dissolved during the Fourth Coalition War through the surrender at Wismar in early November 1807. Willich came to the 1st Silesian Hussar Regiment in 1808 with the remnants and the depot battalion and in 1810 was promoted to NCO .

In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , he became a porter officer in the 1st West Prussian Dragoons Regiment on February 20, 1813, and was promoted to second lieutenant in early June 1813 . For his work in the battle of Großgörschen he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class. He took part in the battles near Bautzen , Königswartha , Colditz , Weissenfels , Freyburg , Eisenach , Leipzig , Crepy, Nanteuil, Sepres, Issy and Waterloo . For Ligny he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class.

After the war, Willich was promoted to Rittmeister and squadron chief until mid-March 1834 . In 1837 he was awarded the Order of St. George IV. Class. On March 30, 1844, he was promoted to major and was from March 21, 1848 to December 5, 1851 regular staff officer in the 1st Cuirassier Regiment . Subsequently, he was appointed commander of the 2nd Dragoon Regiment . In this position Willich was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 23, 1852 and to colonel on March 22, 1853, and was awarded the IV class of the Red Eagle on September 21, 1853 . On September 4, 1854 he took his leave with a pension and the right to wear the regimental uniform. On July 13, 1857, Willich received the character of major general. He died on March 3, 1875 in Anklam.

His assessment from 1847 states: “A highly moral, decent and educated officer who continues to diligently strive to fulfill his duties faithfully. With precise knowledge of the service he trains his squadrons excellently, has a lasting and very beneficial effect on the good spirit of his subordinates, brings the regiment many benefits through his experiences in the war, where he served with great distinction, is also quite sprightly and truly deserves it The highest mercy to be recommended for an exceptional promotion to regular staff officer. He is still very much behind in advancement ” .

family

He married Charlotte von Hiddessen (1803-1875) in Warburg on October 16, 1825 . The couple had several children:
