Friedrich Valesko Karl von Willich (born September 16, 1842 in Lüben , † July 23, 1918 in Hanover ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Friedrich was the son of the Prussian major general Wilhelm von Willich (1797–1875) and his wife Charlotte, born von Hiddessen (1803–1875).

Military career

Willich visited the Higher Civil schools in Landsberg on the Warta River and Frankfurt (Oder) . On October 1, 1859, he joined the 2nd Dragoons Regiment of the Prussian Army . In mid-September 1860 he was transferred to the newly established 2nd Pomeranian Uhlan Regiment No. 9 and in December was promoted to Second Lieutenant . From October 1863 to September 1865 he was assigned to the military riding school in Schwedt / Oder and took part in the battles near Münchengrätz , Soor , Königgrätz the following year during the war against Austriaand Pressburg .

After the peace treaty , Willich became Prime Lieutenant at the end of October 1866 and from the end of July 1867 was commanded as a teacher at the Military Equestrian Institute. Left in this position, he was placed à la suite of his regiment in mid-December 1869 . During the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Willich was commanded as adjutant to the general command of the X Army Corps in mid-July 1870 . In this capacity he took part in the battles at Vionville , Gravelotte , Noisseville , Beaune-la-Rolande , Orléans and Le Mans as well as the siege of Metz . Willich received the Iron Cross 2nd class, was promoted to Rittmeister and after the mobilization was over again a teacher at the Military Riding Institute.

From January 11, 1876 to November 19, 1877 he was squadron chief in the 2nd Hanoverian Uhlan Regiment No. 14 , was then placed à la suite of the regiment and appointed personal adjutant to Prince Albrecht of Prussia . On March 4, 1879 Willich was aggregated to the 2nd Hanoverian Uhlan Regiment No. 14 and commanded him to represent the sick director of the cavalry non-commissioned school. Shortly afterwards he was appointed director and advanced to major at the end of June 1880 . From mid-May 1883 to mid-April 1886, Willich was initially assigned to the Brunswick Hussar Regiment No. 17 as a regular staff officer . Subsequently confirmed in this position, he was entrusted with the leadership of the Schleswig-Holstein Dragoon Regiment No. 13 on March 26, 1887 and appointed regimental commander on November 15, 1887. He rose to lieutenant colonel at the end of March 1888 , was given command of the 2nd Guards Dragoons Regiment on April 16, 1889 and was promoted to colonel on March 24, 1890 . At the same time, Willich was commanded to represent the head of the Military Riding Institute in Hanover from July 20 to October 19, 1891 . On November 3, 1891, Willich succeeded Gebhard von Krosigk as head of the institute. As major general he was in Trier during the autumn exercises in 1896 to represent the sick commander of the 16th Cavalry Brigade ( Karl von Engelbrecht ) . After Willich had been promoted to lieutenant general on August 25, 1897, he was appointed inspector of the 1st cavalry inspection on April 1, 1898 and was awarded the star of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on the occasion of the festival in January 1899 . After being awarded the Order of the Crown, First Class, he was finally put up for disposal on May 15, 1899 with a pension .

He was a legal knight of the Order of St. John and spent his twilight years in Hanover, where he died at the end of the First World War .
