William Mutwol ( Boniface William Mutwol ; born October 10, 1967 in Kapsowar in Elgeyo-Marakwet County ) is a former Kenyan obstacle and long-distance runner .

He made his first international appearance at the junior race of the 1986 World Cross Country Championships in Colombier, where he took silver with the Kenyan team in ninth place in the individual standings.

In 1990 he was fifth at the World Cross Country Championships in Aix-les-Bains and won gold with the team. At the African Championships in Cairo , he won the silver medal behind Moroccan Abdelaziz Sahere in the obstacle course with a time of 8: 34.03 min .

The following year he was twelfth at the World Cross Country Championships in Antwerp and defended gold with the team.

In 1992, in his most successful season at the World Cross Country Championships in Boston, he won silver behind his compatriot John Ngugi and took his third team gold. At the Carlsbad 5000 he set a world best time of 13:12 minutes in the 5 km road race , and at the marathon relay world championship he was the last runner of the victorious Kenyan team. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona he then won the bronze medal behind his compatriots Matthew Birir and Patrick Sang in a personal best of 8: 10.74 minutes and thus completed the Kenyan triple triumph on this route.

In 1998 he finished ninth in the Vienna City Marathon .

William Mutwol is 1.60 m tall and weighed 55 kg when he was active.
