Although the ratings have decreased from around 4.47 million (first season) to 3.49 million (second season), ARD decided to continue producing the series. The third season of the family series was filmed from April to October 2009 and has been shown on television since May 20, 2010.

The series also runs in Switzerland and, under the title Vinbaronen , in Norway. There is also interest from other European countries such as Slovakia, Sweden and Hungary. The series is also shown in China.

action

First season

Thomas Stickler lost his wife to a friend. After quitting his managerial job in Frankfurt am Main , Thomas Stickler visits his parents in his native Rust on Lake Neusiedl . When his father unexpectedly dies, Thomas inherits his parents' winery with the vineyards . Since he sees no further career prospects for himself, he takes over the business and becomes a winemaker .

Against the will of his sister Andrea Plattner, who was not included in the will, he began to expand the estate. But his brother-in-law (and mayor) Georg Plattner intrigues against him.

Thomas Stickler's daughter Anna moves to live with her father in Burgenland and falls in love with the mayor's son from his first marriage. But it turns out that Thomas is actually the boy's father.

Second season

In the second season Thomas established himself in Rust. He runs wine growing with his son Paul and is again in a relationship with his mother Claudia Plattner. However, his eternal enemy remains his brother-in-law Georg.

Anna is about to graduate from high school , but lets the preparations drag badly and prefers to help her grandmother Hermione in her inn. Finally, Thomas becomes aware of his daughter's plight and hires Anna's mother Johanna as a tutor. In the end, however, nothing helps: Anna fails the exams. As a consequence, she leaves Rust and travels to Australia . Her half-brother Paul falls in love with the Hungarian Edina Legedy, who has come to Rust with her son Karoly to track down his father. She works as a waitress in Hermione's restaurant and can help Thomas, who has suffered immense frost damage, to find grapes. Thomas and Johanna are finally divorced and after her stay in Australia Anna finally still passes the high school diploma. To the huge disappointment of her friend, the chef from the inn, she fell in love with Melbourne and will now study biology there. Hermione is diagnosed with stomach cancer. It can be operated successfully. Andrea Plattner is divorcing her husband Georg and voluntarily renounces the common property. However, this does not prevent Georg from continuing to do crooked business around the planned European center at Bergham Castle.

Thomas continues to have money problems and would like to apply for a new loan from the bank in order to be able to finance his financial gap. This does not succeed, however, since Mayor Georg Plattner knows how to convince the bank employee not to grant Thomas a new loan. Nevertheless, Thomas' financial problems seem to be resolving, as his former boss Hannes Janeke makes him a tempting offer. Thomas Stickler is to head a foreign subsidiary in Bulgaria for one year in order to improve the working atmosphere and the interpersonal relationships in this company. In return, he receives a paid service in advance with which he can free the company Stickler & Stickler from its financial hardship. With a heavy heart and after long deliberation, Thomas accepts the offer. His son Paul is said to run the company alone during his absence. In addition, Thomas receives an exclusive contract from his best wine buyer.

Community doctor Eibecker turns to Thomas and Andrea to inform them that Georg only wants to enrich himself through the construction of the planned Europe Center, and presents the terms of the contract, which he should also sign. Vice-Mayor Jakob Ressler presented this to the local council and spoke to Georg openly about his plans. He is outraged and resigns as mayor for health reasons . Jakob Ressler is appointed as his successor.

Meanwhile, Hermione marries her long-time friend Gottfried Schnell. In addition, she refrains from selling the Stickler Inn after initially considering such a thought.

Third season

Thomas Stickler returns from Bulgaria. Paul had successfully run the winery in Thomas's absence. Ex-Mayor Plattner, who now lives with his former secretary and has a child, is still planning conflicts against the winemaker. Chef Fabian and Edina fall in love. The two of them receive an offer from Vienna and move to the federal capital together. Thomas' future wife Claudia dies unexpectedly in a car accident in which Paul was behind the wheel. Jakob Ressler, who is currently mayor, resigns due to Plattner's intrigues and Georg Plattner takes over the office on an interim basis until the next election. Andrea Plattner is elected Mayor of Rust. Paul's friend Kerstin comes to visit and stays at Paul's side for a long time. She renovated the inn and reopened it. Thomas meets the biologist Karin Schwarz. Karin receives a job offer from abroad and travels to Africa with Thomas.
