history

middle Ages

The oldest written mention of Wippenbach comes from June 29, 1212.

In the Middle Ages and in the early modern period, Wippenbach belonged to the Ortenberg Office , a condominium that was formed by three sovereigns from among the members of the Wetterau Counts' Association .

Early modern age

Since all three gentlemen of the condominium turned to the Reformation , Wippenbach also initially became Lutheran . In 1601 there was a real division of the condominium, whereby the village of Wippenbach fell to the County of Hanau-Münzenberg , from 1642: County of Hanau . From 1597 onwards, Count Philipp Ludwig II of Hanau-Munzenberg pursued a decidedly reformed church policy. He made use of Jus reformandi , his right as sovereign to determine the denomination of his subjects, and made this largely binding for the County of Hanau-Munzenberg. The county of Hanau fell in 1736 when the last Hanau count, Johann Reinhard III, died. , on the basis of an inheritance contract with the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel and thus also Wippenbach.

Modern times

The Hanau, later Hessian "Amt Ortenberg" belonged to the Grand Duchy of Hesse from 1810 and was assigned to the Dominialamt Ortenberg . In 1821 the Grand Duchy formed the district of Nidda , into which all parts of the former Ortenberg office were merged and which was called Kreis Nidda from 1832 . With the revolution of 1848 the administrative district of Nidda was briefly formed, but in 1852 the district of Nidda was revived. In 1874 the areas of the former Ortenberg district became part of the Büdingen district , which became part of the Wetterau district with the regional reform in Hessen in 1972 .

The previously independent community Wippenbach was in the course of municipal reform in Hesse on 1 July 1971, the cities of Ortenberg and Lißberg and four other smaller surrounding communities on a voluntary basis to the new city Ortenberg together .
