The oldest known written mention of Eckartsborn was in 1290 as Eckernburn.
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Eckartsborn in 1830:
"Eckartsborn (L. Bez. Nidda) evangel. Branch village; is 1 1 ⁄ 2 hours from Nidda on a mountain, has 63 houses and 326 inhabitants, who are Protestant except for 2 Cath., and among whom are 46 farmers and 19 craftsmen. Then the place has 1 grinding and 1 oil mill. - In the year 1290 a vineyard in Eckartsborn is thought of. "
The previously independent community Eckartsborn was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse on 1 July 1971, the cities of Ortenberg and Lißberg and four other smaller surrounding communities on a voluntary basis to the new city Ortenberg together .
