Wolfgang Mürmann (born September 15, 1944 in Hützel , Lüneburger Heide ; † July 1, 2018 ) was a German songwriter , composer , author and music producer .

Professional background

At the age of fifteen, Wolfgang Mürmann broke off the classical piano and violin lessons that had been prescribed for him in order to follow his stronger inclination towards rock and pop music . He began to write music and lyrics and in 1963 he became lead singer and guitarist of the Hamburg rock band The Rangers , with whom he a. a. also appeared in the legendary Hamburg Star Club . When the group disbanded in 1966, he was already in contact with the Philips record company, which signed him as a German-speaking interpreter. Between 1967 and 1975 he published eleven singles under the pseudonyms Mano , Wolfgang Jade and Peter & Wolf . The most successful title was Visits me on my tree , which it featured in the ZDF hit parade in 1974 and in Ilja Richter's ZDF television show disco .

Mürmann's career as a songwriter began in 1971 with a German text for the folk song Stop! I Don't Wanna Hear It Anymore by the US singer and songwriter Melanie Safka , which he wrote unsolicited and sent to the singer's German music publisher. A little later, the Hamburg record company Philips actually published his text Oh, Stop! Let's become friends with the Romanian singer Pompilia.

A year later, the Hamburg composer and arranger Hans-Georg Moslener became the producer of the Wolfgang Jade project. He composed the music, Mürmann wrote almost all of the lyrics. From this close cooperation, a sought-after team of authors developed over the course of time, which soon also worked for many other performers. It delivered u. a. for the German Grand Prix preliminary decision in 1976 the contribution You make a career with Lena Valaitis and in 1978 the jurors with the titles Louisiana , ( Jonny Hill ) and Men like you , ( Helena ), made two contributions to the circle of fifteen Grand Prix - Applicants selected. Mürmann was already able to celebrate a Grand Prix success at the 20th Eurovision Song Contest in 1975, when the Dutch band "Teach-In" won in Stockholm with the song Ding-A-Dong , for which he had supplied the German text version.

In 1977 he began working with music producer and author Jimmy Bowien, for whose artist Daliah Lavi he worked as a copywriter on various albums and singles. a. You are my problem wrote. Mürmann also regularly contributed texts for the Bowien productions with Karel Gott , Wencke Myhre and Margot Werner in the following years. Between 1980 and 1996 Mürmann also composed and produced under the pseudonym Mike Moore Company and under his own name, seventeen LP / CDs of instrumental music for Selected Sound Musikverlag / EMI, which were published internationally.

From 1995, eleven book projects with pointed short stories and cartoons followed in collaboration with the illustrator Lutz Nosofsky. The book series with the titles … went stupid and consolation plasters have been published by Tomus Verlag, Munich.

Wolfgang Mürmann was married to the music publisher Barbara Mürmann since 1974 and lived in Hamburg.
