reception

Eric Kohn of IndieWire declared a captivating due to the merger, Jack London worthy outdoor survival substance with bloody shootings and supernatural thrills, solidifying Jeremy Saulnier an aesthetic that is steeped in the delicate art, many types of films to an impressive whole to merge. The filmmaker creates such a haunting mix of shocking, violent developments and lyrical images that the details rarely matter. While this time around the narrative was confusing and at times confused in its approach, Saulnier and screenwriter Macon Blair kept their gripping atmosphere at a fast pace, and in the relentless film they stuck to their own homemade beats, according to Kohn. With the howling wind dominating the soundtrack and the blinding white mountains lurking in the corners of almost every picture, Hold the Dark develops a post-apocalyptic aura that is unique to America's Last Frontier .
