Ximo Tebar
Ximo Tebar (born March 30, 1963 in Valencia ) is a Spanish jazz musician ( guitar , composition ).
Live and act
Tebar received guitar lessons from the age of seven; he initially devoted himself to flamenco . At the age of 15 he began to study Brazilian music. At the age of 17 he decided to pursue a career as a professional musician and founded his own jazz group , with which he won the 1990 international competition at the Getxo jazz festival . In 1989 he played as a representative of Spain in the EBU big band .
Since then, Tebar has been touring internationally regularly with his band or as a solo guitarist. He also accompanied Lou Bennett in Europe in 1992 . In 1995 he got a recording deal with Warner Brothers . In 1997 he toured with Lou Donaldson , Dr. Lonnie Smith , Idris Muhammad and Billy Brooks . His album Goes Blue , which was released on his own label Omix , received critical acclaim as an excellent work. Chucho Valdés brought Tebar into the all-star ensemble there at the Havana Festival in 2000 (alongside Danilo Perez , Giovanni Hidalgo , Tata Guines , Ronnie Cuber , Dave Valentin and Nicholas Payton ). In 2002 he first appeared in the New York Club Birdland ; The end of 2003 he moved to New York to work with Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra of Chico O'Farrill work. He also produced albums for Dave Schnitter and Ester Andujar. He also worked with Johnny Griffin , Benny Golson , Joe Lovano , Tom Harrell , Tete Montoliu , Anthony Jackson , Louie Bellson , Pedro Iturralde and Jan Akkerman .
With the IVAM Jazz Ensemble, founded on the initiative of the Museo de Arte Moderno in Valencia, Tebar has merged the music of Erik Satie with flamenco jazz . He can also be heard on recordings by Joc Fora, Ricardo Belda, Lou Bennett ( Now Hear My Meaning ), Presuntos Implicados, Ester Andújar, Roque Martinez and David Pastor.
Prizes and awards
As a soloist and with his group, Tebar was awarded the Muestra Nacional de Jazz by the Ministry of Culture in 1989 and 1990 . His group won the Getxo competition in 1990. In 2001 and 2002 his band was honored as the best group with the Premio Jazz Promusics ; the 2001 album Homepage received another of these awards. In 2007 he was awarded the International Association for Jazz Education's Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Jazz Education .
