Yōko Kanno started playing the piano at the age of three and composed her first piece at the age of ten. She later improved her skills at Waseda University . In 1987 she started her career as a keyboardist and lyricist with the band Tetsu 100% and stayed with the band until they broke up in 1989. Also in 1987 she joined the video game company Koei as a composer and was able to build her career in the media business. 1994 her first solo was Anime - Soundtrack ( Macross Plus ) and published in the same year she left KOEI again. Since then, Yōko Kanno has been a composer and sound producer for anime, live-action films, documentaries, solo albums, TV commercials and for herself. However, she has now settled in the anime sector.
She also played with symphony orchestras from Israel , the Czech Republic and Warsaw . Gabriela Robin
On some of her CDs a Gabriela Robin is given as the singer / songwriter , although it is not clear whether Kanno himself sings under this pseudonym . When asked directly who Gabriela Robin was, she did not answer. In the booklet of the Macross Plus soundtrack, Gabriela Robin writes the text for Santi-U , while Yōko claims this for herself in a Newtype interview. In the brochure of the concert Chōjiku Tanabata Sonic ( 超時空 七夕 ソ ニ ッ ク ) of July 7, 2009 Gabriela Robin was interviewed in writing and announced her appearance. Towards the end of the concert, however, Yōko Kanno began to sing the song Moon from Turn A Gundam , which is attributed to Gabriela Robin. Nevertheless, Yōko Kanno continues to deny that Gabriela Robin is her pseudonym. Fans are pretty sure they are the same person.
