Ylli Manjani

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ylli Manjani is an Albanian lawyer and politician. From November 2015 to January 2017 he was Minister of Justice of the country and meanwhile deputy chairman of the Socialist Movement for Integration (LSI).

Manjani grew up in Lezha. He studied law at the University of Tirana and then deepened his studies at the Universities of Oslo and Leiden with a specialization in European law . He then worked for a time in the OSCE Mission in Tirana . In the government cabinet of Nano, he served as Secretary General of the Council of Ministers from 2002 until he resigned in the summer of 2003.

After the defeat of the PS in the 2009 parliamentary elections , Manjani criticized the party leader Edi Rama for his opposition policy during the political crisis in the country from 2009 to 2013 , whereupon he switched to the ideologically similar LSI in 2011. Manjani then received a post as Deputy Minister for Transport and Telecommunications, since the LSI formed a coalition with the PD in 2009 . He was able to keep this after the parliamentary elections in 2013 , as the LSI is still involved in the government, albeit under the leadership of the PS. After the resignation of Nasip Naço , Manjani became Albania's Justice Minister in November 2015. Rama and Manjani broke up in January and Petrit Vasili was appointed as the new Minister of Justice. Rama called for more cooperation with parliament in implementing the judicial reform. Manjani said he has since been released for speaking openly about corruption and cannabis cultivation .

Manjani is the author and editor of the academic works E Drejta Administrative për Studentët (“Administrative Law for Students”) and Komentar për Kodin Zgjedhor të Republikës së Shqipërisë (“Commentary on the electoral law of the Republic of Albania”).
