Edmond Haxhinasto

Edmond Haxhinasto (born November 16, 1966 in Tirana ) is an Albanian politician of the Socialist Movement for Integration (LSI). He was Foreign Minister from September 16, 2010 to June 27, 2012 , and then Minister of Transport and Infrastructure until September 2016.

biography

Edmond Haxhinasto completed a degree in English at the University of Tirana in 1989 and then worked in youth associations. In 1990/91 he took care of international relations at the Albanian Parliament for a few months. In the next few years he was not politically active and took a postgraduate degree in business administration in Brdo , Slovenia . From 1997 he worked again for the government, first under Fatos Nano  and Pandeli Majko  as head of the department for coordination, in a special role in the refugee crisis during the Kosovo war in 1999 and as person responsible for the introduction of a plan against corruption . In 2000, he earned a Masters degree from Princeton University , Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs . Under Ilir Meta , he worked then as a diplomatic adviser to the Prime Minister and later as charge d'affaires in Belgrade . From summer 2002 he was head of cabinet in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was headed by Ilir Meta.

Together with Ilir Meta, he resigned from the Socialist Party at the beginning of 2004  and founded the Socialist Movement for Integration (LSI), as its deputy chairman from then on. In October 2009 he became Deputy Minister for Public Works and Transport in the Berisha II Cabinet . In September 2010 he took over the Foreign Ministry from Ilir Meta, which he passed on to Edmond Panariti (LSI) in 2012 . Subsequently, he was Minister for Economy, Trade and Energy. From July 2012 to April 2013 he was also Deputy Prime Minister.

After the change of government he was appointed by Edi Rama in September 2013 as Minister for Transport and Infrastructure in his first cabinet . He resigned at the beginning of September on the grounds that he wanted to concentrate more on party work in view of the upcoming elections in the coming year.
