Nikolla has graduated from the Faculty of Science at the University of Tirana with a degree in Mathematics since 1989 . In 2006 she graduated from the Academy for Leadership and Reform at the Institute for Democracy and Mediation in Tirana and in 2008 the Academy for Administrative and Police Studies at the University of Pittsburgh . Since 2010 she has got her Masters in Public Administration at the Albanian University Tirana.
Political career
She became politically active in 2003. From 2003 to 2006 she worked as an advisor to the administration of the 1st district in Tirana. She was elected mayor of the 1st district for two mandates from 2007 to 2013. Since 2007 she has been a member of the executive committee of the Socialist Party of Albania.
In the parliamentary elections on June 23, 2013 , Nikolla was elected as a member of the Tirana County, and on July 31, it was announced that she will head the Ministry of Education and Sport in the next government cabinet under the party leader of the Socialists, Edi Rama. On September 15, she was sworn in before President Bujar Nishani , whereupon she began her work as Minister of Education and Sports the next day.
In May 2017, she was replaced by the non-party Mirela Karabina after socialists and democrats agreed that the opposition could appoint seven new ministers for a “technical government” to ensure that the elections were carried out correctly. After the new elections , the newly created Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth was entrusted to her. After a period of prolonged student protests, Edi Rama dismissed eight ministers on December 28, 2018. Minister of Education Lindita Nikolla was one of the dismissed ministers. Rama explained the change in view of the upcoming local elections in June 2019.
Private
Lindita Nikolla is married to Ligor Nikolla. They are the parents of a daughter, Livia. Nikolla is fluent in English and has knowledge of Italian and French .
