Eglantina Gjermeni

Eglantina Gjermeni (born November 24, 1968 in Kruja ) is an Albanian politician ( PS ). Between 2013 and 2017 she was Minister for Urban Development (and Tourism) in the Rama I cabinet .

education

Eglantina Gjermeni studied history at the University of Tirana between 1986 and 1990 . In 1993 and 1994 she completed a postgraduate degree in social work there , and from 1997 to 1998 she did a master's degree in social work at Grand Valley State University in Michigan ( USA ). From 1995 on, Gjermeni was a lecturer in the Department of Social Work of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Tirana. In 2005, after three years, she received her doctorate in her field. In 2013 she resigned from her post in the department.

In addition to Albanian , Gjermeni is also fluent in English and Italian .

Political career

Eglantina Gjermeni in 2009 for the first time as a deputy of the Socialist Party (PS) of Tirana County in the Parliament elected. During her first term as an MP, she was a member of the Parliamentary Commission on Health and Social Affairs. In 2013 she was re-elected, this time as a member of the Qark Fier . In that year, after more than eight years, the socialists again provided the parliamentary majority and their chairman Edi Rama was able to form the government with his coalition partner LSI . Rama also brought Gjermeni into his cabinet and appointed her head of the newly formed Ministry of Urban Development and Tourism. Her seat in parliament was taken by Adelina Rista ( PS ).

Since January 2012 Gjermeni has been a member of the party executive committee of the Socialists.

Between 1999 and 2009, Gjermeni was the head of the Center of the Gender Alliance for Development , a non-profit Albanian organization that stands up for a same-sex society. At that time she regularly advised the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Development Fund for Women in Albania.

Eglantina Gjermeni is married to Marian Gjermeni. The couple have two children, Erik and Megi.

  1. From September 2013 to January 2015 the ministry was officially called the Ministry of Urban Development and Tourism , since then it has only been the Ministry of Urban Development . From September 2017, the ministry in the Rama II cabinet once again changed its name.
