Zöllnitz was mentioned in 1350 under the name "Zculnicz". Regarding the manorial rule , Zöllnitz belonged to the Rochlitz parish around 1548 , and from 1764 to 1856 as an official village to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Rochlitz . Ecclesiastically the place has always been parish after Seelitz. The offices were dissolved during the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony in the 19th century . As a result, Zöllnitz came under the administration of the Rochlitz court office in 1856, and in 1875 under the newly established Rochlitz administration .

On April 1, 1935, Zöllnitz was incorporated into the southern neighboring village of Seebitzschen , with which the place came to the municipality of Steudten on July 1, 1950 . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, Zöllnitz was incorporated into the Rochlitz district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ) as a district of the Steudten community , which was continued as the Saxon district of Rochlitz from 1990 and was newly formed in 1994 District Mittweida and in 2008 in the District Central Saxony. With the incorporation of the municipality of Steudten into Seelitz, Zöllnitz has been part of the greater municipality of Seelitz since January 1, 1994.
