The square village of Bernsdorf was first mentioned in 1378 under the name "Bernhartstorf". Regarding the manorial belonged Bernsdorf in 1548 in proportion to the manor Crossen and manor Schnaditz (Owner: Anselm of Zaschnitz). From 1606 Bernsdorf was under the Kolkau manor . In terms of church, Bernsdorf has always been parish to Seelitz. Until 1856, Bernsdorf was in the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Rochlitz . The offices were dissolved during the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony in the 19th century . As a result, Bernsdorf came under the administration of the Rochlitz court office in 1856 and in 1875 under the newly established Rochlitz administration .

On April 30, 1936, Bernsdorf was incorporated into Beedeln . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, Bernsdorf was incorporated into the Rochlitz district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ) as a district of the Beedeln community . On July 1, 1965, the municipality of Beedeln was incorporated with its Bernsdorf district to Kolkau . As a district of the municipality of Kolkau, Bernsdorf became part of the Saxon district of Rochlitz in 1990 , which was merged into the newly formed district of Mittweida in 1994 and in the district of central Saxony in 2008. With the incorporation of the Kolkau community into Seelitz, Bernsdorf has been a part of the Seelitz community since April 1, 1994.
