Location of Zootzen in Friesack

Zootzen , consisting of the settlements Damm, Briesener-Zootzen, Klessener-Zootzen and Friesacker-Zootzen, is a district of Friesack in the Havelland district (Brandenburg). Its area is part of the Zootzen forest . The place had a total of 364 inhabitants in 2001.

Place name

An elevation or island in the Luch is an explanation adapted to the environment, as Zootzen was in the swampy surrounding area. But the Slavic "sosna" the Kiefer ( Polish sosna = pine, Russian сосна (pronounced: sasná)) is a suitable explanation, since the Zootzen was forest-like. The oldest and most powerful oaks are said to have stood in the Friesacker Zootzen because they could not be felled and transported because of the swampy surrounding area.
The names of the districts Briesener-Zootzen, Klessener-Zootzen and Friesacker-Zootzen certainly allow conclusions to be drawn about the ownership structure of the von Bredow im Zootzen within their lines and branches. Theodor Fontane wrote about the Bredow estate in 1889:

The Zootzen
a. Friesacker share 1700 acres
b. Kleßen share 1560 acres
c. Briesener share 2200 acres
d. Wagenitzer share 3200 acres
8660 acres

"So (if there are still trees, which is questionable) ⅓ mile, so that the Zootzen currently takes up a large third of the little country Friesack."

The Wagenitzer Zootzen, a Vorwerk for Gut Wagenitz and a forestry were east of the Briesener Zootzen and belonged to Vietznitz since 1931. The ownership of the von Quast im Zootzen, however, must have been very low, so that Quastschen Zootzen was probably just a piece of forest.
