Zweierpasch is a German-French band from the border area between Freiburg im Breisgau , Kehl and Strasbourg ( Upper Rhine ), which also leads cross-border projects, music competitions and workshops. She has been the winner of the Adenauer de Gaulle Prize since 2018 and was voted Freiburg's Band of the Year in 2017 . In addition to the twin brothers Till and Felix Neumann (born October 19, 1983 in Heilbronn ), it consists of a five-piece music group. Her texts are both German and French. Her style is known as "World HipHop" and combines rap with world music, reggae and funk.
Musical career and orientation
In the early 2000s, the brothers and other rappers and DJs first founded the hip-hop formation Buddah Woofaz in the Odenwald , before today's group Zweierpasch emerged on December 25, 2012 as a bilingual, German-French music group. They are accompanied musically by their band from the border region around Freiburg , Strasbourg and Mulhouse .
In August 2013, on the occasion of the Franco-German friendship (50 years of the Élysée Treaty ) , Zweierpasch released the bilingual album All good things are 2 / Toutes les bonnes choses arrivent par 2 with musical guests from West Africa and France. It is distributed by the Berlin label Rummelplatzmusik and includes the song Grenzgänger / Frontalier . Speeches by Charles de Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer at the signing of the Elysée Treaty in 1963 form the framework for this song. The song was performed in November 2013 in Bellevue Palace in front of the German Federal President Joachim Gauck and in July 2014 at the Udo Panic Prize . Lindenberg Foundation listed. The video published for this shows the twin brothers on the Passerelle des Deux Rives between Kehl and Strasbourg, which is considered a European symbol of peace.
On May 9, 2014, the duo released the XL single Mon Chemin / Peace Doves , which the Mauritanian singer Monza was involved in creating . The song Peace Doves was published on it ; In it, Zweierpasch stand up for the peace project Europe and against racism, marginalization and right-wing extremist political movements like the Front National .
With their song Kleine Helden from 2015, which they recorded together with a children's choir from the La Meinau district in Strasbourg , Zweierpasch advocate the inclusion of children's rights in the Basic Law . At the invitation of the city of Freiburg, they presented this on the 25th World Children's Day on September 20, 2015 at official celebrations.
In July 2017 her album Double Vie (Doppelleben) was released on the Rummelplatzmusik label . In it, the bilingual twin brothers rap about war and resistance, plastic bags and consumerism and critically deal with right-wing populist and racist movements in Europe (including the Front National and the NSU ). The guests include the Gambian reggae singer Warrior Singhateh and the Afghan - Iranian rapper Ajmal. The first single on the CD - Flag at half mast - is a song about the French resistance fighter Jean Moulin ( Résistance ), Ingo Krüger , who died from the Wall, and their fight for freedom. The video for the song takes place in the trenches of the First World War on the Hartmannswillerkopf in Alsace .
In November 2019 the band released the studio album "Un peu d'Amour" on Jazzhaus Records . Featured on it are the Malian artist Master Soumy (known from the film Mali Blues ), Kenny Joyner from the funk band FatCat , as well as musicians from the Chilean band El Flecha Negra and Engracio Villaver from the Philippines. The Central German Broadcasting described the work as " an album that it is. Not only has it a critical album, but also a journey through the world ." In their song "Panzer Politik Poesie", Zweierpasch deal critically with the subject of arms exports, citing companies such as Heckler and Koch or Rheinmetall and denouncing the fact that every 14 minutes around the world a person dies from a German weapon. In 2018, the band accompanied the nationwide protest run peace-go against arms exports and played at the final rally in front of the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. In "Fessengau" they demand the closure of the Alsatian nuclear power plant in Fessenheim , in "Plastique de Rêve" they tell the journey of a plastic bag and draw attention to the environmental threat posed by plastic waste. Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg can also be heard in the song .
After the murder of George Floyd by police officers in the USA, Zweierpasch released the song Color Rush in July 2020 . According to the Mittelbadische Presse, Farbenrausch is " an anti-racism song. A crystal clear announcement against the right. A memorial for Hanau , Halle and Georg Floyd. With bass, brass and German-French rap ."
further activities
Since 2006, the twin brothers Felix and Till Neumann have been leading intercultural projects in schools and cultural centers in Germany, France , West Africa , Eastern Europe and Asia , in which cross-border exchange as well as political and cultural education are to be promoted through rhythm, language and creativity. In winter 2012 the brothers were in Mauritania on behalf of the German embassy to work on a rap project with young African artists. In September 2013 they were responsible for the political education project Rap dich zur Wahl , which was supported by several members of the Bundestag. In 2015, 2016 and 2019 they toured with different musicians from the respective countries through Kazakhstan , Ukraine and the West African Mali .
Since 2016, Zweierpasch have been offering European creative competitions to promote cultural, linguistic and political education. Two thousand German and French schoolchildren from the Upper Rhine took part in their project "Rapconte - Franco-German Fairytale Rap". In 2018, Till and Felix Neumann von Zweierpasch launched the "Ecole du Flow", where schoolchildren from Germany and France get creative across borders and appear in front of and with each other at summit meetings. It is the largest German-French creative competition with hip-hop music in France and Germany.
In July 2019, Till and Felix Neumann made headlines nationwide with the first Fill The Bottle Challenge in Germany. In six challenges in 2019, with the support of numerous helpers in Freiburg im Breisgau and Kehl , they collected 55,000 cigarette butts in bottles and distributed them on social media under the hashtag #FillTheBottle in order to draw attention to the resulting environmental pollution.
In December 2019, Zweierpasch will release the "Cap22" snapback, developed together with the Freiburgs Finest Streetwear fashion label.
The band campaigned for the reopening of the closed borders during the 2020 corona crisis in the German-French border area. She took part in the "umbrella demos" between Kehl and Strasbourg and played on the Passerelle des Deux Rives one day before the border opened on June 14, 2020 on the 35th anniversary of the Schengen Agreement .
