Camp Rock is a 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie. The music is written by Julie Brown, Paul Brown, Regina Hicks and Karen Gist. The movie is directed by Matthew Diamond and produced by Alan Sacks.

On January 25, 2008, during the commercials for Minutemen, it was announced that Camp Rock would debut June 20.[1]. Camp Rock will be the first DCOM to air on ABC The Wonderful World of Disney, ABC Family, and online after its premiere on Disney Channel. The movie stars teen pop sensations the Jonas Brothers and introduces Demi Lovato for her first lead role in a film.

Plot

Mitchie Torres (Demi Lovato) dreams of being a singer and would do anything to go to the prestigious Camp Rock. Her mother (Maria Canals Barrera) has recently started a catering business and the camp director (Daniel Fathers) has hired her and Mitchie can take part in camp activities. Mitchie arrives at Camp Rock, meeting Caitlyn Geller (Alyson Stoner), a girl who wants to be a producer, and becomes "friends" with the egotistical Tess Tyler (Meaghan Jette Martin) and her two flunkies Peggy (Jasmine Richards) and Ella (Anna Maria Perez de Tagle). Also new at Camp Rock is that the lead singer of the popular Connect Three, Shane Gray (Joe Jonas) will be there teaching classes. Shane has recently been reported as spoiled, selfish, and demanding. His uncle (the camp director) is worried about his and his brothers' image, so Shane must help at Camp Rock against his wishes. But Mitchie has been lying about her family (her mother being the president of a record company in a city in China), just trying to fit in. When Shane overhears Mitchie singing her songs in an empty Mess Hall, it reminds him of the type of music he likes. Along the way Mitchie and Shane become friends and go on a journey to find themselves. But, one spoiled Tess finds out about Mitchie's secret, she reveals it to everyone and Shane is convinced Mitchie just wanted to be friends with Shane Gray, and not the real Shane he thought she saw. When Tess sees how good Mitchie is getting with her own group with Caitlyn, she claims they stole her charm bracelet to the camp director and Mitchie ends up not being able to participate in the Final Jam, not until the end. The Final Jam is supposed to be the last event with one winner. During the Final Jam, Tess's flunkies Peggy and Ella step out of her trap of keeping them as "backup singers" and end up singing by themselves. When the Final Jam ends, Mitchie informs the camp director of this and he tells them he was hoping they'd catch on. Finally, at the end, Mitchie ends up singing the song that Shane was looking for, and they sing one last final song together...and Mitchie ultimately finds herself and had the greatest summer of her life.

The cast of Camp Rock in the "Final Jam" in the movie, performing We Rock.
  • Demi Lovato as Mitchie Torres is the female protagonist of the movie. She isn't very rich, but she had always wanted to go to Camp Rock. In order to do that, she has to work along with her mother, Connie, in the kitchen and mess halls.
  • Joe Jonas as Shane Gray is the male protagonist of the movie. He is the lead singer of the band, Connect Three. The other two band members include Nate (Nick Jonas) and Jason (Kevin Jonas). In the beginning of the movie, he is shown to be hot-tempered and rather full of himself. Nate and Jason make Shane come back to Camp Rock, where he first began to love music. As the movie goes on, Shane hears a girl, Mitchie Torres, singing and she reminded him of the music that used to inspire him, and is tempted to find the girl behind the talented voice.
  • Meaghan Jette Martin as Tess Tyler is the female antagonist of the film. She went to Camp Rock to be "too cool" and wants to be a pop star. She is very popular but very mean to others, especially Mitchie, and even purposely blames Mitchie for stealing her charm bracelet so that she can be banned from all camp activities. But her behavior is understandable since she might have not received enough attention from her mother as a child.
  • Alyson Stoner as Caitlyn Geller is Mitchie's only true friend at Camp Rock. Caitlyn is the only girl who wasn't mean or rude to Mitchie. She wants to be a music producer and is constantly carrying her laptop around. She also has an intense rivalry with and, apparently, a hatred for Tess. She only sings once in the movie, for the full cast song, We Rock.
  • Maria Canals Barrera as Connie Torres is Mitchie's mother. She is supportive of Mitchie's dreams, and got her in Camp Rock. She is the camp cook.
  • Jasmine Richards as Margaret "Peggy" Dupree is one of Tess' best friends and is part of Tess' group. She isn't quite as cruel as Tess but is still more so than Ella. Other than tagging along with them, she dreams of being a famous guitarist and singer.
  • Anna Maria Perez de Tagle as Ella is one of Tess' best friends. She follows Tess around and does whatever she tells her to do, although she isn't as completely mean as Tess. Ella is the girly girl of the mean girl clique; she's obsessed with lip gloss and nail polish. One of the reasons why she is friends with Tess is because she wants to be popular. She's also supposedly dumb, where she has a dilemma of choosing between two nail polishes of exactly the same color.
  • Kevin Jonas as Jason Gray is the lead guitarist of the band, Connect Three. He is spacey, out there, and the "airhead" of the band. Throughout all the film, he asks Shane to make him a birdhouse.
  • Nick Jonas as Nate Gray is the guitarist and vocalist of the band, Connect Three. He is practical, but sometimes bossy and serious towards his bandmates; he's the one who suggested Shane go to Camp Rock.
  • Jordan "J-Man" Francis as Barron James is a Latino troublemaker at Camp Rock and best friend of Sander. He and Sander want to be reggaeton artists.
  • Giovanni Spina as Andy is a camper at Camp Rock who becomes friends with Barron and Sander. He would like to be a drummer.
  • Roshon Fegan as Sander Loya is the best friend of Barron and camper at Camp Rock. He want to be a reggaeton artist like Barron.
  • Aaryn Doyle as Lola Scott is a talented singer, who has been going to Camp Rock for a long time and becomes friends with Caitlyn, Barron, Sander, and Mitchie.
  • Jennifer Ricci as TJ Tyler is Tess' famous mother, but she's always too busy to pay attention to Tess, which could be the reason for her behavior.
  • Daniel Fathers as Brown Cessario is the cool and charismatic camp director and Shane, Nate, and Jason's uncle.
  • Brenda Song (cameo) as Girl Near Lake
