Phineas and Ferb is an American animated series by the Walt Disney Company from 2007 to 2015. The first season consists of 26 episodes , the second 39, the third and fourth seasons 35 each. After the series finale, the separate special OOCA was broadcast, which, however, did not replace the series finale as the end of the series.

content

During the summer vacation, Phineas Flynn and his stepbrother Ferb Fletcher, who live in Danville, USA, get bored. So every day they invent something that is usually hatched by Phineas. Her sister Candace Flynn does everything she can to tell her mother about them, but she never succeeds because she cannot provide any evidence. Often the pet Perry is responsible for the disappearance of possible evidence, because this is a secret agent and thwarted the evil plans of the villain Dr as "Agent P." or "Perry the platypus". Heinz Doofenshmirtz and by chance blurs the traces of Phineas' and Ferb's actions. One often notices that there are many parallels between Phineas' and Ferb's life and that of Doofenshmirtz and that Perry repeatedly stands between archenemy and master.

Characters

Phineas Flynn
Phineas is the clever and crazy head of the two who works out one plan after another. He's also very creative. He is not interested in Candace's threats to tell her mother about him and Ferb, he would even appreciate being able to finally show his mother one of her works. With Ferb he keeps building the most unlikely inventions within a very short time for fun, which at the end of the day disappear again due to a chain of circumstances (mostly triggered by an invention by Dr. Doofenshmirtz). Phineas doesn't realize that Isabella loves him.
Ferb Fletcher
Ferb is Phineas' British step brother. He is very quiet and at the same time a real genius. He always follows Phineas' plans and gives them small, but subtle changes, the icing on the cake, so to speak. His clothes are very old-fashioned, he wears his pants almost under his arms and always has a white and yellow shirt on. He is in love with Vanessa Doofenshmirtz (the daughter of Dr. Doofenshmirtz). As a rule, he says one sentence per episode, which, for his young age, shows a surprisingly high level of general knowledge. He also has a penchant for rap music and is himself a gifted musician and dancer.
Candace Gertrud Flynn
Candace is Phineas' 15-year-old older sister. Candace is eager to catch Phineas and Ferb for their crazy actions. But she has the bad luck that all traces of her will be covered before her mother can see her. She talks a lot and very quickly, and often with her friend Stacy on the phone. She always calls her mother when she tries to tell on her brothers, who wonders when Candace does not call for once. Candace is extremely in love with Jeremy and after the special The Longest Summer Day with him. She often has to make the difficult decision of either impressing Jeremy or telling Phineas and Ferb. Most of the time, she opts for telling the boys. Like many teenagers, she has a dream of becoming famous. She often comes very close to this goal, but never makes the final breakthrough, Phineas and Ferb are also responsible for this. She also has a parsnip allergy, which causes skin swelling and an extremely deep voice. Since the episode The Ballad of Captain Rauschebart , she has seen a talking zebra from whom she is called Kevin. She meets it very often in her dreams.
Linda ("Mom") Flynn-Fletcher (nee Flynn)
Linda is the birth mother of Phineas and Candace. In her earlier years she was a singer but only had one big song. She remarried after her first marriage. She's also in a jazz band with Jeremy and Isabella's mothers , but she does so much with them too. She regularly attends a cooking class, together with Dr. Doofenshmirtz. She was once briefly with Dr. Doofenshmirtz together, and it was she who (unconsciously) gave him the idea to conquer the Tri-State Area.
Lawrence ("Dad") Fletcher
Lawrence is the family man and biological father of Ferb. He knows about some of his sons' actions, but does not try to assert himself. As with Candace, Linda doesn't believe him. He works as an antique dealer.
Perry the platypus / Agent P.
Perry is Phineas and Ferb's pet. What the two do not know: He is a secret agent and investigates as Agent P. with the order to stop Doofenshmirtz. As one of many animal agents, he wears a typical agent hat during his missions. He disappears through secret passages around the world to the headquarters of the organization, where he is told what to do on a screen from Major Monogram. Before that happens, however, a character (usually Phineas) asks “Hey, where is Perry?” Or “Has anyone seen Perry?”. After his mission he reappears, which leads to the comment "Oh, there you are, Perry!" When he makes his way to Doofenshmirtz in a vehicle, he is sometimes seen by his masters and has to hide his face. After a successful action, he or Dr. Doofenshmirtz accidentally found all evidence of Phineas' and Ferb's actions. His cooing sounds as well as his efforts to protect his host family and his camouflage at all costs are characteristic.
Dr. Heinz doofenshmirtz
Dr. Doofenshmirtz is a vicious scientist who wants to rule the "Tri-State Area". But his plans fail every time and unintentionally hit different goals. Often his inventions are destroyed because he puts a self-destruct button in each one. He wants to carry out his plans with his machines, usually the machine can shoot a beam at the push of a button, which then causes changes to the hit object and this is often the cause of the disappearance of Phineas' and Ferb's works. His hiding spots are mainly a slightly bizarrely shaped high-rise of his company, the "Doofenshmirtz Gesellschaft mit Malwilliger Liability (GmbH)" ("Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc."), warehouses with the same striking company logo and a zeppelin with the English company name on it. He also owns a Type 2 Volkswagen Transporter, which instead of the VW emblem has a sign saying DE Inc. He only recognizes Perry, the platypus , when he is wearing his agent hat. He enjoys seeing Perry helpless or otherwise mocking him. He only got his PhD for $ 15 online. Heinz 'brother Roger Doofenschmirtz is the extremely popular and charming Mayor of Danville, who is often the target of his plans, including a. on the assumption that whoever overthrows a democratic representative would automatically become the rightful ruler. He also shares custody of their daughter, Vanessa, with his ex-wife Charlene, who has to pay him maintenance. Doofenshmirtz hates the outdoors and most holidays and good things - or at least pretends to be. At heart he's not really a bad guy, and if Perry doesn't stop him, he's offended. He is also the chairman of an association of villains with the acronym LOVEMUFFIN. He grew up in the fictional "Dunkeldorf" in "Druselstein", which is a wild mixture of US American clichés about Europe, partly similar to Eastern European countries around 1900. The houses are medieval half-timbered houses, the residents wear medieval clothes, lederhosen, hats with feathers or chamois beard and helmets with horns or antlers, sometimes even both mixed. There is apparently no electricity and you practically never see automobiles on the roads, even though there is a driving test in the country. The - rarely heard - "Druselsteinisch" is based on the German in the original, in the synchronization it sounds like a Slavic language. Doofenschmirtz had to replace the garden gnome with his parents, which protects a house from evil witches because theirs was seized. In some episodes, the upper part of his skyscraper explodes, which is in perfect condition at the beginning of each episode.
Major Francis Monogram
Major Francis Monogram, always referred to as “Major Monogram”, is a department head of the secret agent agency Organization without Cool Acronym , OOCA for short . He clears up all agents about their missions. Except for Carl, an intern, all the other employees in his animal department are mostly very small. However, there are other people with his position. Heard like this, e.g. B. Isabella's dog Pinky in a department run by a Wanda. He also has a passion for singing, which he wants to hide from the public. He is also married and has a son named Monty Monogram, who later dated Vanessa Doofenshmirtz without his father's knowledge.
Isabella Garcia-Shapiro
Isabella is a Girl Scout in group 46321 and in love with Phineas. In every episode she asks: “What are you doing?” She always stands behind the actions of the brothers and often helps out together with her fellow scouts. As a girl scout, she gets all kinds of badges, e.g. B. Sewing badges or almond removal badges. Isabella has a Chihuahua named Pinky who she thinks is very special. She doesn't give him normal dog food, nor does she let him hunt cats. Like Perry, Pinky is a secret agent.
Jeremy Johnson
Jeremy works in the mall in the junk food store "Mr. Slushy Burger ". He always seems friendly and helpful and, like Stacy Hirano, is enthusiastic about Phineas' and Ferb's projects. He is also in love with Candace and wants to impress her. He also has his own band and a little sister, Suzy, who Candace hates.
Stacy Hirano
Stacy is Candace's best friend and has Japanese roots. She is a typical and trendy teenager. She is similar to Candace in some ways, except for the big difference that she enjoys Phineas' and Ferb's actions, and often persuades Candace to participate. Overall, she reacts more mature than Candace to everyday actions, often pulls her back down to earth and takes away the impulse to tell her brothers. Her little sister is in Isabella's Girl Scout group. She later finds out that Perry is a secret agent, but keeps it to herself.
Vanessa Doofenshmirtz
Vanessa is the daughter of Heinz Doofenshmirtz. The first time she shows up is on a father-daughter workday. She is very sarcastic and tries to prove to her mother that Heinz is angry, much like Candace is with her brothers. Candace and Vanessa also sing a song together in the series, but do not meet themselves in this episode. Her best friend is called Lacey, with whom she, like Candace with Stacy, speaks frequently on the phone. In some episodes it is suggested that Ferb is in love with her and although he helps her in certain situations, she does not realize it properly. In an episode in which you see the characters a few years later, however, they are together. In addition, she is later with Monty Monogram, the son of Major Monogram, without her or his father's knowledge. Of course, nobody is allowed to know, because their fathers are archenemies. The only ones who know about it are Perry and later Carl, Major Monogram's unpaid intern.
Monty Monogram
Monty is the son of Major Monogram and his wife. He's brave and sided with the OOCA, but that doesn't stop him from having a relationship with the daughter of his father's arch enemy, Vanessa Doofenshmirtz.
Buford Van Stomm
Buford is the local thug. He used to be a normal boy, but when another thug tried to steal his freshly won goldfish , he discovered his potential as a villain. Without his fish biff, however, he is very fearful and also very sensitive. He's been friends with Phineas and Ferb since he fought a thumbs-up with Phineas. Just like Baljeet and Isabella, he is involved in every kind of competition (organized by Phineas and Ferb). He's afraid of Jeremy's little sister, Suzy.
Baljeet Tjinder
Baljeet is Buford's favorite sacrifice. He's a nerd who learns non-stop even during the summer vacation. However, he is very involved in competitions. Paradoxically, he has to work with Buford in every team competition. Like his ancestors from India , he only ever got the best grades in school.
Suzy Johnson
Suzy is Jeremy's little sister. She likes him very much and hates Candace because she wants to win over Jeremy. Even though she is a little girl, she can be very mean and naughty. Even Buford is afraid of her. However, Jeremy sees his little sister as an angel.
Jenny
Jenny is Candace Flynn's second best friend and enjoys participating in Phineas' and Ferb's projects. She fights for world peace and is a passionate animal rights activist.
Charlene Doofenshmirtz
Charlene is the ex-wife of Dr. Heinz doofenshmirtz. Vanessa tries to convince her that Heinz is angry. In addition, Charlene and Linda go to the same cooking class and the same masseuse who calls herself Olga. Charlene has black hair, wears glasses and is incredibly rich, which is why she pays Heinz alimony, which he uses to finance his "Inators".
Vivian Garcia-Shapiro
Vivian Garcia-Shapiro is Isabella's mother and one of Linda Flynn-Fletcher's best friends. She often performs in a jazz band with Mrs. Johnson, Jeremy's mother, and Linda . Vivian Garcia-Shapiro calls her daughter "Isa" and comes from Mexico .
Carl
Carl is the freckled, unpaid intern who works at OOCA. Major Monogram has a bad relationship with Carl and says, for example, that he never wanted Carl ever to fulfill a secret assignment for the OOCA ("stranded"). According to his own information, Carl has no nostrils and therefore no sense of smell.
Mrs. Johnson
Mrs. Johnson is Jeremy's mother and Suzy's mother. She is in the same jazz band as Vivian Garcia-Shapiro and Linda Flynn-Fletcher. She often meets with Vivian and Linda in “Strick und Masche”, but also privately, e.g. B. Vivian Garcia-Shapiro's house.
standard
Norm is the big robot from Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Dr. Doofenshmirtz usually insults him and wants Norm to always perform all tasks. Norm is apparently a bit stupid and was originally programmed to exterminate the platypus. In the course of the episodes he becomes more and more human, in one episode he saves Dr. Doofenshmirtz even.
Roger Doofenshmirtz
Roger Doofenshmirtz is the brother of Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Mayor of Danville. Dr. Doofenshmirtz can't stand him, which has to do with the fact that her parents always preferred Roger. In some episodes Doofenshmirtz 'inventions are said to hit Roger, which is always thwarted by Perry or a coincidence.
Miep
Miep is an alien whose spaceship crashed in Phineas' and Ferb's gardens. At first glance, Miep looks cute and helpless, but in truth he is an intergalactic justice fighter who fights against the space poacher "(Big) Mitch". The name "Miep" comes from the tone he often utters: "Miep!". However, he only expresses this when he is not wearing a translator mustache. Miep has the ability to shoot rainbow colored rays from his mouth. He is good friends with Phineas, Ferb, Isabella and Candace.
Irving
Irving is a stalker of Phineas and Ferb who appears regularly in the series starting with the episode "The Shrink Machine". Irving is a classic geek and has little fits of giggles every now and then. Almost obsessed with Phineas, Ferb and their inventions, he has an album and a website about them. Since the episode "Phineas and Ferbs Doppelganger" his older brother Albert has appeared. Albert initially does not believe Irving that Phineas and Ferb can build such inventions, let alone exist at all. But when he saw Phineas and Ferb in action, he apologized to Irving.
Albert
Albert is Irving's older brother and very opinionated, which is why he had initially not believed Irving that Phineas and Ferb can build large constructs, let alone exist at all. He has the black belt in karate . He is secretly in love with Candace.

Conception

The surfaces as well as floors, ceilings or walls often have a triangular pattern, which is reminiscent of Phineas' head shape. Real images are often shown, for example the globe, a state or an aluminum foil ball. Most of the episodes feature one or more songs that have also been translated into German. It is noticeable that at least some characters also got a singing voice.

synchronization

The German-language dubbing is produced under the dialogue direction by Dominik Auer , Stefan Günther , Kim Hasper and Hannes Maurer in the studios of Film- & Fernseh-Synchron GmbH (FFS) and SDI Media Germany GmbH in Munich . Farina Brock was the original voice actor for Candace. She spoke Candace in the first part, the first episode (Die Achterbahn), but was then replaced by Lea Kalbhenn from the second part of the first episode (birthday (night) dreams). Manuel Straube, the spokesman for Phineas, was replaced by Patrick Schröder in the middle of the first season due to vocal cord irritation . Straube synchronizes Phineas again from the second season.

Recurring elements

The series is deliberately strongly characterized by recurring elements and running gags and most of the episodes follow the same basic scheme. Deviations from these patterns are used as a gag. The following elements appear for the most part - with the exception of individual episodes - in every episode, even if they can appear slightly different from the pronunciation or in individual cases also from the words and are often targeted by the series itself:

  • Phineas says in each episode before starting a new work, "(Ferb,) I know what we're going to do today."
  • Isabella comes by every day and asks: “What are you doing now?” Or “What are you doing?” And can often help with her girl scouts, as they are just about to acquire a matching badge anyway.
  • “Hey, where is Perry?” (As a transition to the scene in which Perry goes to his secret hiding place and takes his assignment) and “Oh, there you are, Perry!” (At the moment when Perry is again joined Phineas and Ferb as pets).
  • Candace says very often, even several times per episode: "Now you are so much due!" Or "You are so much due!".
  • As soon as Candace sees something "worthy of the air", she tries to call her mother and get her home as soon as possible. Sometimes also to bring them from the local area. The works of Phineas and Ferb mostly disappear without a trace or are also covered up so that their mother cannot see anything unusual or dangerous.
  • After Candace fails, her mother offers all the children in the garden to go in and eat cake.
  • Doofenshmirtz 'inventions end either with "-inator" or with "-onator" (e.g. whale translator)
  • The name of his company can be found on every Doofenshmirtz invention. Mostly only the abbreviation "DEInc." Can be read.
  • With a few exceptions, Dr. Doofenshmirtz (or one of his inventions) is responsible for making Phineas and Ferb's inventions disappear in a mysterious way.
  • In almost every episode, Perry comes into his secret hiding place in a different and at the same time absurd way.
  • A jingle sounds in every episode when the tower is shown by Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated. (almost always "Doofenshmirtz - being mean is our motto!" or "Doofenshmirtz - being mean is great!").
  • Whenever Perry as Agent P. makes his "departure" after work is done - usually with an opening hang glider that bears his logo - a jingle sounds: "Agent P." or "Peerry". During his actions as an agent, background music, sung with "Dubi-dubi" sounds, is based on the signature melody of the James Bond films.
  • Doofenshmirtz only recognizes "Perry the platypus" when he has his agent hat on. Otherwise he considers him a completely strange platypus or falls for any clumsy disguise Perrys. With the latter, Doofenschmirtz is always surprised to find that there is a platypus under the disguise until Perry puts on his agent hat.
  • Phineas and Ferb are often asked if they are too young for something. Phineas: "Yes. Yes, we are! ”, Whereupon everything goes fine for the questioner. There are seldom small variations.
  • Almost all of Doofenshmirtz's evil plans are acts of revenge for something that happened to him in his dire childhood, or "countermeasures" for something mundane that has bothered him lately (e.g. the Slushy burger chain jingle) .
  • A huge, floating baby head appears in many episodes, mostly without any explanation or meaning for the plot.
  • Candace sees a talking zebra, who calls her Kevin (only in some episodes).
  • Doofenshmirtz appears in some episodes alongside the plot as an extra and is just in the picture.
  • A bird or other flying animal slams into the building.
  • Sometimes Candace breaks out in dull, hysterical giggles.
  • After the failure of his plan, Doofenshmirtz almost always yells "Damn you, Perry the platypus!"
  • Doofenshmirtz is often mistaken for a pharmacist by the public because of his lab coat.
  • When an object is thrown out of the picture, usually by Doofenschmirtz, the sound of a cat being hit can often be heard.

criticism

Julian Miller writes in his review that the series for "[...] children up to twelve years [...] is a nice pastime [...]", "[...] but drives everyone over this age [...] crazy [...] “Would. “The plot of the first episode is predictable and terribly mundane. It just doesn't want any tension and the overall humor of the series is not very subtle. Funny situations are not used, but dissolve into nothing, which the viewer more and more frustrated. ”
Emily Ashby, however, praises the series as a“ fun cartoon ”. Children would "enjoy" giving free rein to their imaginations "with the characters' crazy plans" while older viewers and even parents would appreciate "the show's sagacity and intelligent humor."
