The Third series of British science fiction series Doctor Who began on 25 December 2006 with the Christmas special "The Runaway Bride".Following the special, a regular series of thirteen episodes will be aired, starting with "Smith and Jones" on 31 March 2007.
Production
After the success of Series 2 , The BBC renewed a Third Series . Following the departure of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler a new companion was needed . In August 2006 The BBC comfirmed that Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones would become the new companion. Agyeman has previsouly appeared in the 2006 episodes "Army of Ghosts" . John Barrowman also returned as Jack Harkness. Filming of the Third Series began on August 10 2006. Writers for Series Three included Russell T Davies , Steven Moffat , Gareth Roberts , Paul Cornell , Helen Raynor , Chris Chibnall and Stephen Greenhorn . Charles Palmer , Euros Lyn , Graeme Harper and Richard Clarke were directing duties. Guest Stars for Series 3 included Catherine Tate , Don Gilet , Rhodri Meilir , Sarah Parish , Roy Marsden , Adam Dalgliesh , Anne Reid , Vineeta Rishi , Reggie Yates , Andrée Bernard , Christina Cole , Dean Lennox Kelly , Matt King , Chris Larkin , Stephen Marcus , Angela Pleasance , Lenora Crichlow , Jennifer Hennessy , Ardal O'Hanlon , Travis Oliver , Natasha Williams , Ryan Carnes , Hugh Quarshie , Miranda Raison , Thelma Barlow , Mark Gatiss , Michelle Collins , Anthony Flanagan , Elize du Toit , Jessica Hynes , Harry Lloyd , Thomas Sangster , Lucy Gaskell , Carey Mulligan , Michael Obiora , Sir Derek Jacobi , René Zagger , John Simm , Nichola McAuliffe , McFly , Sharon Osbourne , Ann Widdecombe , Tom Ellis , Ellie Haddington.
