(17427) Poe is an asteroid located in the outer main belt . It was discovered on February 4, 1989 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code 809).
The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 13.552 (± 0.210) kilometers, the albedo as 0.067 (± 0.011). It suggests a dark surface.
(17427) Poe was named on July 30, 2007 after the American writer Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849). His collection of stories Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque (1839) and his poem The Raven (1845) were particularly emphasized in the naming text . A year later, on November 20, 2018, an impact crater in the northern hemisphere of the planet Mercury was named after Edgar Allan Poe : Mercury Crater Poe .
