(19999) Depardieu is an asteroid of the main inner belt , an asteroid field between Mars and Jupiter . The asteroid was discovered on January 18, 1991 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the French Observatoire de Haute-Provence in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department ( IAU code 511).

Mean solar distance ( major semi-axis ), eccentricity and inclination of the orbit plane of the asteroid roughly resemble the orbital data of the members of the Flora family, a large group of asteroids named after (8) Flora . Asteroids of the Flora family move in a 4: 9 orbital resonance with the planet Mars around the sun . The group is also called the Ariadne family after the asteroid (43) Ariadne .

(19999) Depardieu was named on September 23, 2010 after the actor Gérard Depardieu (* 1948). His appearances in the films Jean de Florette from 1986 and The Seventh String from 1991 were mentioned in the dedication . The name also honors the son Gérard Depardieus Guillaume Depardieu (1971-2008).
