(2766) Leeuwenhoek ( 1982 FE 1 ; 1941 BK ; 1948 XH ; 1980 TR 5 ) is an approximately seven kilometers large asteroid of the central main belt , which was discovered on March 23, 1982 by the Czech (then: Czechoslovakia ) astronomer Zdeňka Vávrová on the Kleť- Observatory on the Kleť near Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic ( IAU code 046).
designation
(2766) Leeuwenhoek was named after the Dutch naturalist Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (1632–1723), who was the builder and user of light microscopes . The lunar crater Leeuwenhoek is also named after him.
