(7434) Osaka is an asteroid of the main inner belt , an asteroid field between Mars and Jupiter . The asteroid was discovered on January 14, 1994 by the Japanese amateur astronomer Takao Kobayashi at the Oizumi Observatory ( IAU code 411). The Oizumi Observatory is located in Oizumi in Gunma Prefecture . The asteroid had previously been sighted on July 24, 1992 under the provisional designation 1992 OC 9 at the La Silla Observatory in Chile .
The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 4.688 km (± 1.277). With an albedo of 0.290 (± 0.152) it has a rather light surface.
(7434) Osaka was named after the Japanese city of Osaka on September 21, 2002 .
