The Equatorial Guinean-East Timorese Relations describe the intergovernmental relationship between Equatorial Guinea and East Timor .

politics

East Timor has been a member of the Community of Portuguese- Speaking Countries (CPLP) since independence in 2002 , while Equatorial Guinea joined the community in 2014 after adopting Portuguese as an official language in 2007 . The African country was a Portuguese colony until 1778 , while East Timor was part of the Portuguese colonial empire until 1975 . Both countries are also members of the Non-Aligned Movement , the Group of 77 and the ACP Group .

On August 10, 2013, Equatorial Guinea Foreign Minister Agapito Mba Mokuy welcomed an East Timorese delegation, made up of Foreign Ministry advisors Roque Rodrigues , Ana Ferreira and Bruno Teixeira, to talks about Equatorial Guinea's accession to the CPLP.

The first meeting between the two heads of state of the countries, the African President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and his Southeast Asian counterpart Taur Matan Ruak , took place on July 23, 2014 at the CPLP summit in Dili , East Timor , at which Equatorial Guinea was accepted into the community.

East Timor's Interior Minister Longuinhos Monteiro met Equatorial Guinea Prime Minister Francisco Pascual Obama Asue during his visit to the African country on August 1, 2016.

In October 2016, East Timor's Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Alfredo Pires, visited Equatorial Guinea on the occasion of the Energy Technical Meeting of the CPLP in Malabo . Pires met Equatorial Guinea's Minister for Industry and Energy Eugenio Edu Ndong and the Minister for Mining Gabriel Mbega Obiang Lima .

On October 31, 2016, President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo received Taur Matan Ruak in Brazil for bilateral talks as part of the eleventh CPLP summit. The aim of the meeting, as with the others before, was to strengthen the friendly relations and cooperation between Equatorial Guinea and East Timor.

diplomacy

Equatorial Guinea neither has a diplomatic mission in Dili, nor does East Timor have one in Malabo. Bilateral contacts run, for example, through the embassies of both countries in Brussels .

economy

For 2018, the East Timor’s Statistical Office does not indicate any trade relations between Equatorial Guinea and East Timor.

Visa

Citizens of Equatorial Guinea and East Timor need a visa to enter the other country.
