Żarkowo

Żarkowo (German Sorkow ) is a village in the municipality Dębnica Kaszubska ( Rathsdamnitz ) in the powiat Słupski ( Stolp district ) of the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship .

Geographical location

Żarkowo is located in Western Pomerania , about 23 kilometers southeast of the town of Słupsk ( Stolp ), eleven kilometers east of the church village Dębnica Kaszubska ( Rathsdamnitz ), two kilometers southeast of the church village Dobieszewo ( Groß Dübsow ) and one kilometer southeast of the village Podole Małe ( Klein Podel ). About six kilometers west of the village runs the road No. 210 Słupsk - Bytów ( Stolp - Bütow ), with which it is connected by secondary roads.

history

Sorkow used to be a fief of the Grumbkow family . Around 1784 there were six half-farmers in the Sarkow Sorkow estate and a total of eight households, including the wood- keeper Katens located on the village's field . Sorkow was a 'knight-free' estate that was owned by the widow Friederika von Podewils , née von Grumbkow , at that time. Later Sorkow became a pure farming village. In addition to agriculture and forestry, fishing was carried out in the Schottow Bach.

Before 1945 Sorkow belonged to the community Klein Podel in the district of Grand Dübsow the county Stolp in Administrative district Köslin of Pomerania . The responsible district office was in Stolp.

At the end of the Second World War , the place was occupied by the Red Army . As a result of the war, the place came to Poland as Żarkowo .

Around 50 people live in the village today.

Before 1945 the children of Sorkow went to school in Klein Podel.

The villagers present before 1945 were Protestant . Sorkow belonged to the parish of Groß Dübsow and thus to the parish of Stolp-Altstadt.
