(2900) Luboš Perek ( 1972 AR ; 1974 OZ ; 1974 QF 3 ) is an approximately 13 km large asteroid of the outer main belt , which was discovered on January 14, 1972 by the Czech (then: Czechoslovakia ) astronomer Luboš Kohoutek at the Hamburg observatory in Hamburg- Bergedorf ( IAU code 029) was discovered. It belongs to the Eos family , a group of asteroids named after (221) Eos .

designation

(2900) Luboš Perek was named after the Czech-Czechoslovak astronomer Luboš Perek (* 1919). Known for his work on galactic dynamics and planetary nebulae , he worked at Purkyne University in Brno and from 1968 to 1975 as director of the Astronomical Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Prague . Then he was head of the space department in the UN Secretariat . From 1967 to 1970 he was Secretary General of the International Astronomical Union and President of the International Astronautical Federation .
