(63068) Moraes is an asteroid of the main outer belt . It was discovered on November 23, 2000 by the Japanese amateur astronomer Hiromu Maeno at the observatory in Shishikui ( IAU code 342). Shishikui rose in Kaiyō in 2006 and is located in Tokushima Prefecture on Shikoku Island . The asteroid was discovered during images of the spiral galaxy NGC 1637 .
The solar orbit of the asteroid is steeply inclined at more than 27 ° to the ecliptic of the solar system . The orbit around the sun has a high eccentricity of 0.2904 .
The mean diameter of (63068) Moraes was calculated to be about 7 km, the albedo of 0.077 (± 0.016) indicates a dark surface.
The asteroid was named on May 23, 2005 after the Portuguese writer Wenceslau de Morães (1854–1929), whose works give an accurate picture of the life of ordinary Japanese people. In the laudation for the naming it is mentioned that de Morães made the culture of Tokushima known to the world. The dedication text also mentions that the discovery of the asteroid was supported by the Japan Spaceguard Association . The spelling "Moraes" follows the English spelling of his name. The lunar crater De Moraes, on the other hand, a crater on the northern side of the moon , was named after the Brazilian astronomer Abrahão de Moraes in 1979.
