(6991) Chichibu is an asteroid of the main belt , which on January 6, 1995 by Japanese amateur astronomer Takao Kobayashi at Oizumi Observatory ( IAU code 411) in the Japanese prefecture of Gunma was discovered.
The asteroid was named on January 6, 2003 after the city of Chichibu , which is located in the west of Saitama Prefecture and largely belongs to the Chichibu Tama Kai National Park .
