(9769) Nautilus is a main inner belt asteroid discovered on February 24, 1993 by Japanese astronomers Akira Natori and Takeshi Urata at JCPM Yakiimo Station in Shimizu , Shizuoka Prefecture ( IAU code 885).
The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 2.839 km (± 0.132).
According to the SMASS classification ( Small Main-Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey ), a spectroscopic study by Gianluca Masi , Sergio Foglia and Richard P. Binzel at (6769) Nautilus assumed a bright surface, so it could, roughly speaking, be around trade an S asteroid . In fact, the albedo of 0.458 (± 0.074) indicates a light surface.
The asteroid was named on September 28, 1999 after three submarines with the name " Nautilus ": a submarine designed by Robert Fulton from 1800 (see Nautilus (U-Boot, 1800) ), one by Jules Verne in the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea The submarine was first mentioned in 1869 (see Nautilus (Jules Verne) ) and the USS Nautilus (SSN-571) , the first nuclear-powered submarine . Nautilus Rupes , a Rupes on Mercury , was named in 2013 after the research vessel EV Nautilus (built in 1967, renamed in 2009).
