Starting position
As already announced after the World Cup in Hochfilzen, there was a castling in the German women's team for the last races of the calendar year after the poor performance in the previous week. As head trainer Kristian Mehringer announced, Marion Deigentesch , Janina Hettich and Maren Hammerschmidt joined the team. On the one hand, they replaced Karolin Horchler and Anna Weidel , who both started in the IBU Cup, and Franziska Hildebrand , who did not start due to poor running form.
Johannes Thingnes Bø , who traveled to France as the leader of the overall World Cup, announced that this World Cup would be his last participation in the current season for the time being. Bø becomes a father and wants to be there when his first child is born. That is why the Norwegian planned to skip the World Cup stations in January in Oberhof and Ruhpolding. But he wanted to take part again in the subsequent World Championships in Antholz.

In difficult conditions with continuous rain, an unusual race developed initially. While usually all athletes come to the first shooting together, this time the field was already stretched wide with the first attack. Johannes Thinges Bø won again, for the fifth time this season. The best German was Arnd Peiffer in seventh place, followed by the best Austrian Simon Eder, who came in eighth. From an Italian point of view, Dominik Windisch was the best in his country as 17th. Johannes Kühn was one of only two athletes without a penalty loop. Nevertheless, the German did not get past 14th place because he broke a ski on the first lap and came to the first shooting just two minutes behind.
